What you say is as true as the fact that series in Australia aren't won without 1st innings scores of 450+.

The whole team is to blame - the bowlers and batsmen are both putting pressure on each other.
It wasn’t true in the first and second tests though. Neither Brisbane nor Adelaide were roads. Scoring rates were slow and batsmen had to grind hard to put up runs. Fmd Steve Smith took 300 plus balls to make a hundred, and he’s God.

Perth has been flat as expected, but the first two pitches gave the bowlers enough. The idea this series has been a road-fest so far just doesn’t cut it.

My only point is that Test series in Australia are won through the consistent posting of 450+ 1st innings scores. Teams that fail to do so, don't win series Down Under. This should be noted amongst the stick being piled into England's bowlers at the moment.

Gutsy 40? Pretty 30? Sure, no worries. Stepping up to the plate with a 150 to drag your team in front? Waft, snick.

Brisbane was a gift horse for the English and they messed it up. Adelaide was typical Adelaide, the most English of wickets. England got another surprisingly friendly wicket last year at Rajkot and stuffed than one up also.

A Shield team only plays four first-class games less than a county championship team, and you cannot really compare the two considering the Shield exclusively consists of Australians (and Mason Crane) whereas the championship has overseas, kolpakers and guys on second passports which allow English counties to rotate eligible Englishmen in and out of the first team. I'm never going to believe that playing less competitive (first-class) cricket produces better (first-class) bowlers. The format of sixteen games/two divisions (2000 - 2016) saw Steve Harmison, Simon Jones, Fred, Swann and Monty flourish.
Well in that case the first thing to do is obvious. You know how the Americans in World War 2 put all the Japanese in horrible camps because they were a threat to national security after they bombed the American fleet? Just copy that, maybe give them their own team like the Americans did too.

I'm not entirely kidding, do that, burn all the academies and then maybe give the English players more games.

Would like to see Aus bat through until 1 hour before tea. 4and 1/2 sessions should be enough if the players are kept out on the field for another three hours. Scoreboard pressure and tired from being in the field should help erase the scars Aus have from Adelaide.

Broad is Gillespie in '05. He has looked terrible the whole time and been completely unthreatening. He really just hasn't put the ball in the right areas.

Overton has looked good so far but Woakes has been bog ordinary. Anderson has been doing as expected - toothless without assistance bit still able to keep the ball in the right areas.

This is probably the most stereotypical WACA pitch ever created tbh. It's hard to get in due to the trampoline bounce but once you're in it's impossible to get you out.

The difference in two tests now has been Smith's batting. England have got themselves into a good position and then he's come along and crushed their spirits. Get Smith for 50 in Brisbane and we have a completely different game. Get him for 60 here and Australia limo to 450 ao. He must be demoralising to bowl to because nothing works against him. You can't bowl him out, you can't bore him out, you can't bounce him out. He just keeps coming at you until he declares or you get the other 10 blokes out.

Then your point is stupid. Because it's not true in the slightest. The only team that's won series' in Australia recently has been South Africa and I don't know if they even posted 450+ once in a Test they won, let alone consistently.

Broad wasn't even that good in England last season (20 wickets at 33.90 v SA/WI)
I have a thought that Root doesn't give Broad long enough spells to get wickets.
5-4-3-3-2-2-3-4-2

What is the point of 2 over spells? I'd rather see 3 spells of 7 overs in the day.

The problem is it's hard to give a bowler long spells when they're bleeding runs. The two over spell at the end was only two overs because it was complete and utter trash.

He probably isnt currently fit enough to bowl 3x 7 over spells.
