Is there an England doom and gloom/selection thread. I think there are interesting times ahead.

Would it not be worth giving someone like Malan an over or two?

Woakes' bowling is like throw downs when the ball's this old.

pretty sure tpc has become the 3rd australian player to score 2 doubles tons in the ashes (bradman and simpson)

Oh dear. We appear to be at that stage of the tour where you wake up wondering how bad the score card might be only to find out that the useless buggers have exceeded your worst expectations. Nice for the Aus supporters, who have been unfailingly gracious on this thread, btw. A waste of time for the rest of us. It's times like this you wish that cricket could take a lesson from tennis and end the contest when one team goes 3 up in a 5 match series, as the remaining matches will be absolutely pointless. Another triumph for the dunderheads at the ECB who have managed to make our domestic game a steaming pile of mediocrity over the last 10 years or so, after a brief period when it actually did its job.

Critics of the selectors tasting it here id imagine...
They've done a great job this summer, after being pretty ordinary the last few years.

- dropping Renshaw had to happen
- Shaun Marsh proved a good call
- Mitch Marsh proved a good brave call, Handscomb was also looking a bit out of form but was the incumbent
- Tim Paine has been solid and probably outperformed what the other keepers would have done

All that's left is for Bancroft to make a good ton and it's been a nearly perfect summer for the selectors

They say too much width, but that would have been a perfect line outside off stump generally. Hard work out there.

Expecting Smith to declare soon
Not sure why he would tbh.

Australia are absolutely cruising, and scoring runs at a higher rate than Warner and Bancroft will on day 5.

So long as they don’t lose a wicket, they’re as well just cruising to 600.

Honestly I'm expecting an unchanged XI for the next test. There's Ball, who's crap, Ballance, who's crap and Crane, who's crap. The might bring in Wood, not that he'd have done anything to justify it, but for who? It doesn't look like the Stokes thing is going to get sorted at any point before next August.

At least the Steve Waugh Aussies were merciful enough to conclude the Ashes as a contest in less than 10 days of actual cricket. This is becoming maniacal torture of the English, going around giving them the impression they were really competitive.

Overton's got a cracked rib hasn't he? One of the above will be playing at Melbourne.
