I believe that he has been playing in domestic cricket again but not sure if he will return to the top level at his age and the fact its a shoulder injury..hope I am wrong tho..Prasad used to be a great little swing bowler. Has he never recovered from injury?
He had a tough time against pace bowling of A teams. Sadeera Samarawickrama, DdS and Kusal Mendis have done well and had the nod ahead of himJust checked out Roshan Silva's record. Guy averages 48 in FC...WTF?? How the hell did he not get picked all this time? Especially after Sri Lanka have been so **** over the last 1 year? Is this another Fawad Alam case?
Asela Gunarathne had done very well, and bowls too.Nah. They made him open in a bunch of one dayers because they thought he might be able to do a job there as 'anchor batsman with a good technique', and I think he's done it a bit in domestic one dayers too but he has a really crap batting record in OD cricket in general so it doesn't say a lot. In FC cricket he's always been a middle order guy - sometimes three, but rarely if even opening.
Six out of seven of Sri Lanka's batting lineup should have been obvious for quite a while IMO:
1 Karunaratne
2
3 Mendis
4 Mathews
5 Chandimal
6 de Silva
7 Dickwella
They somehow seem to think they're in a strong enough position in terms of depth to knee-jerk drop these guys when they drift out of form though, and they're clearly not. We've barely seen that lineup play together since de Silva's debut (where funnily enough they fielded that exact lineup, minus Dickwella because they played five bowlers). They need to find a second opener but they should stick with the rest of that lot for a while in Tests.
Mioght hit some fifties as well. He can pack a punch when he throws the bat around.I kind of want them to make Dilruwan opening a permanent thing, even though I'm sure he'd average about 10 doing it in SA/Eng/Aus/NZ. Their other openers suck and this would give them a way to play five proper bowlers without leaving one of the better batsmen out.
Gunarathne with Dilruwan Perera currently are the best allrounders we have.Come on.
One of Gunaratne and Roshen Silva also has to be given another go. So they could open. Six bats with Mathews and de Silva as all-rounders.
Disciplinary issues was another. He was part of the squad that won 3-0 over Australia in 2016.Dhananjaya,Mendis were preferred over him.Just checked out Roshan Silva's record. Guy averages 48 in FC...WTF?? How the hell did he not get picked all this time? Especially after Sri Lanka have been so **** over the last 1 year? Is this another Fawad Alam case?
Lets not get carried away here, India did declare twiceWelldone Lanka. There's been lots of talk in this thread really putting the team in the gutter when its unwarranted. This is the same team that defeated Aus 3 nill and whitewashed Pakistan away. You don't do that if you are a **** team. The pitch today was very similar to the last days of the test matches in which ENG played, an utter road, where Jadeja and Ashwin ran through the English line up. You have to have some spine to get a draw out of a situation like that and they've done that brilliantly. If there were enough overs they had an outside chance to walk out of India with a draw.
A draw is a draw though. I am not arguing that SL are world beaters or something but they were getting way too much flak on here for losing in India just like every other side that has played in India.Lets not get carried away here, India did declare twice
My bad, I was only responding to the idea that Sri Lanka could have won this. Don't disagree with the rest of the post.A draw is a draw though. They had an outside chance of winning it though. I would give them a 25 per cent chance but if history is any indication, it would gave gotten harder as they got close to the target and they probably would have folded in the end.My bad, I was only responding to the idea that Sri Lanka could have won this.
