Actually agree with Chappelli, Root should man up and bat at 3. Been thinking that for a while now. Ponting and Willamson styles...lead from the front.
I wish Clarke was on the comm box when he was saying that rubbish. Your captain and best bat bats where the **** he likes and feels most productive.

That period of time that the captain gets to relax - must be huge for their sanity and clearing their head.

Also highlights how awesome those guys who can/did do it are.

Nah, it's what's best for the team. Root would probably achieve a better average and more runs batting at number 5, but that doesn't mean it's the best thing for his side. Unless you have a strong well established no.3, it sends a great message to get out there and face the music at first drop if you're the best bat and the skipper.

Chappelli couldn't even convince his brother of his nonsense, but continues to piss on the airwaves.

I'd say it he'd send a better message by scoring more runs, even if he's batting one place lower.

^ Edit: Especially in the current English side which is stacked with middle/lower order strength.

If he's scoring more runs at a better ave how is that not the best thing for the team?

Look it's a common view but I just don't buy into at all. I defended Clarke throughout his career so I;m not going to not back Root over his chosen position. If it was good enough for Lara, Sachin and Border to name a few then I don;t see what the issue is.

It's nonsense mostly pushed by those who value armchair psychology way too highly
