As opposed to here when it’s up against 3.5 football codes (the 0.5 being Rugby).
But it's financial viable to be a cricketer in Aus.

No rugby player or pigeon bread chaser (AFL) is earning as much as a Shane Watson or David Warner.

There are players in the English football league playing 2nd tier (championship) earning 7 million Aus dollars a year.

If you are a good multi sportsman athlete in the UK... cricket is a bad choice.

Daly Cherry Evans and Ben Hunt are on more coin than Steve Smith.

You don’t think Thurston or Franklin are earning as much as Warner or Watson? Crazy talk.

The factor in both countries is the funnel in Cricket is so narrow. Say, 25 spots across 3 formats compared with 22 x 16 AFL teams or 22 x 20 EPL teams.

That and the fact England’s poor climate, lack of sunlight and paucity of good, fresh food means they can only grow 75kg sportsmen who are trundlers instead of the elite athletes we have here who are used to the harsh sun and flourish with a diet of healthy protein and tropical flora.

Googled it and the average is £50k. The top conference footballers earn more than that. Just to underline Cow’s point
I hadn't realised how they compared to conference players tbf.

Obviously our domestic game could still be done way better, but that's another discussion.

I didn't mention Smith.

However, Smith will be paid probably 1.5mil AUD fro cricket Aus... and Im fairly sure he got 1 million USD from Pune.

So are Ben Whoever and Daly No-one Cares earning more than 2.8 AUD a year?

Not sure about that. Tim Bresnan proudly representing the 155 kg trundlers.

English football is a ridiculous thing to compare to anything financially though, because there’s an obscene amount of money kicking around.

Outside of the Old Firm, Scottish Premiership players don’t make any more then County Cricketers.

That and the fact that none of the good footballers in the EPL are actually English.

Holy ****, a discussion on team balance and no mention of Mitchell Marsh. There is hope left in this world.

Not all conference players, a lot of part time clubs in the division. But the top players at Tranmere are in 50-60k I believe and we aren’t necessarily the highest payers.

Not sure this is completely true. Cole Stockton left us for Hearts, turning down L1 clubs in the process. And his contract with us was signed when we were higher up the pyramid. Would suspect he would have signed on for a fair rise.

Anyway, the amount of money in the English game is not a silly comparison, it’s the whole point. You can be a lot worse at football than cricket and still earn more doing the former.
