With Kohli calling the shots, Rahul will replace Rahane out of nowhere.
Wouldn't mind trying that if he fails badly in the first Test over there and we lose. No point having all that depth if we don't use it when guys are in bad form.

Tomorrow might be a great chance for Kohli to get a triple, typically by the time he gets his 200 the team is in a position where he can afford to make a fool out of himself, India would probably be about 420-430 if and when he gets to 200, so not completely out of the woods yet.

I have been excited about him getting there too many times this year to get my hopes up.

Averaging 1.75 this series.

But yeah, he's lucky he's not an opener considering the competition for that spot. In his position, he's fine (plus his overseas record keeps him safe given India's upcoming schedule).

I think his biggest concern will be ending up the one left out for Pandya. Someone's going to be dropped for him, and it's kind of been assumed that it'll be Rohit, but maybe not now.

To me, picking Rohit over Rahane in South Africa of all places would be essentially insane, but I can absolutely see it happening if it doesn't stop batting with a needle.

Have more meaningless runs ever been scored?

This is like kicking a physically incapacitated child by Kohli, sad for cricket really.

I'm fairly sure the millions of runs scored by Voges et al against the Windies at home a few years back were roughly as facile.

Sri Lanka are not nearly as bad a side as India are making them out to be. As I've said before, it is incredibly hard to play against India in these kind of conditions and pitches. They've probably perfected the template of how to win in these conditions. I'd venture as far as to say that even if you pit this Indian team against the yesteryear's one, they'd probably still come out on top. tbf in a 5 match series there's probably going to be only 1 result at the max, with the others consisting of Sehwag's triples and doubles. This team is better because the bowlers are better as a pack.

Yeah , would be quite interesting to see how India 2010 go against India 2017 in India.

My first thought is that Sehwag will probably murder the current bowlers before they could get to the Sachin - Dravid - Laxman trio. Also this line up is more collapse pron on spin friendly wickets.

The current bowling is better in both departments though, would be a fantastic series.

I am talking about tracks with very little in them like the current test match pitch. If the tracks are like those in the SA series, it's a coin toss imo. It'll be entertaining like nothing else though.

Would be interesting. However they might go in a one-off series, it's clear that this side is far more ruthless in terms of their will to win and win big.

Have to say SL really are abysmal right now.

that would be an improvement tbh..I must have been really bad in a former life to have to endure this as a SL cricket fan..

Reminder his double hundred at Hobart came at what looked to be the beginning of another Australian collapse.

He saved Australian cricket those two days.

Can't remember the last batsman who took time off for personal reasons when he was in such great form. Kohli should have played the ODI series for some easy hundreds.

Lol. With Rohit now averaging in the 40s thanks to some downhill skiing, we have what, 7 bats averaging >40?

9 if you want to count Karun Nair and Jayant Yadav.

I hope Rohit has genuinely turned a corner, the way things are, at least on performance you can't quite argue for Rahane over him 100%.

Overseas you'd be crazy to drop Jinx.

You have a point for SC games though.
