Oh look, English bowlers actually bowling at the stump and trying to take wickets rather than letting the fielders do all the work...who would have thought that would lead to good results?

That replay of Smith's wicket -his head was still and he was perfectly balanced, he just didn't pick the cutter and played down the wrong line. Nothing to exploit regularly. Might get lucky with another off-cutter later in the series but none times out of ten he'll dispatch it to mid-wicket for 4.

I mean he was a bit late on the ball too, you look at the way his foot is braced and it hasn't quite gotten down in time. That's probably why there was a gap between bat and pad.

Certainly "put him to sleep" is a more viable tactic against him than some of the other nonsense people (Blocky) have come up with over the last year or so.

Handscomb has to go on here - he's made far too many starts and hasn't gone on since last summer.

Not sure why Warne thinks 4-181 is good on the Adelaide Oval when our batsmen are a largely unproven guy who is out of form and a guy who is likely to make one good score in a summer and our batting to come includes a keeper who hasn't made a first class century in a decade.

D/N Adelaide is not normal Adelaide. 300 looks a decent score here, looks very difficult to score.

Only for a single session each day. Adelaide is still a road for 2/3 of the day.

I mean I still rate our attack to defend 250 but still, 4-181 is not firmly in control on nearly any wicket.

This one isn't. Very two-paced and a bit of bite in the pitch, a lot of balls have popped and cut off the seam. Smith looked comfortable because he was dead-batting, he wasn't going anywhere on the scoreboard.

Fair enough. Wife dragged me around the shops for the first session and then I had to go to a bbq for the second session.

300 is defo a good score on this track. England bowled poorly for the first 12 overs. Let Aus off the hook a bit.
