Stokes to replace Bairstow to keep the head butt quota up.
Stokes won't get here until the 3rd test so England will be short a **** for at least a game

lol jk noted racist commenter Craig Overton will come into the team

I think England should call up current IBF and WBA heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua. He obviously won't contribute much with bat or ball. But, there's an argument that neither will Jake Ball as this series progresses. If we get Stokes back we can still go in with 4 quicks and Moeen. Joshua can join the tour as an enforcer without fear of future demerit points. This will put pressure on the Aus batsmen to keep their tongues in check in and around the English camp/dressing room and maybe even the field. I am not advocating violence, but a deterrent against aggression is a legit form of defence. Possibly worth looking into, though there will be issues concerning licensing and whether a suitable financial deal can be reached with Matchroom/ECB.

Is that doesn't come about then I guess Overton is an option. Especially as the Adelaide game is under lights.

England deteriorated (albeit with one bad decision thrown in) and the Aussies, as they always do, were skilled enough and gritty enough to take advantage. This was probably England's best chance of winning a test.

the poor decision of course being Moeen deciding to not really even bother making sure he was in his crease

Haha George Dobell dishing up the excuses for England here including moaning about England’s ‘soft’ preparation. Maybe someone needs to tell George it’s not 1976 and by 2017 standards England’s preparation was pretty lengthy (and it was hardly a cakewalk in the matches either).

they've basically lost the test cause vince took a bad run and moeen decided if he hasn't intentionally left his crease he couldn't possibly be out of his crease

Glad to see Bancroft make some runs. Augers well for the rest of the series. Renshaw has a long road ahead of him to force his way back into the side.

Cummins and Lyon were a class above in both bowling innings. Cummins had that "every ball feels like it could get a wicket" feel that you only get with ATG bowlers. His spell yesterday evening was on another level. I honestly can't believe how little his figures reflected his performance 4/108 for the match understates his impact a lot. If he bowls that well on a regular basis and he'll end up with a ton of wickets.

Anderson looked consistently the most threatening of the English bowlers IMO. He beat the bat a few times and was probably a bit unlucky not to pick up a wicket. Broad was pretty good too. The backup pacemen though were truly awful and let Warner and Bancroft set the tone of the innings. England really looked deflated after the batting performance and they shouldn't have been, since 170 is at least defendable. They could have taken a lot from this game if they had us over five wickets down when we inevitably win (barring a Broad 8/15 miracle tomorrow).

Smith is so good now, it's really hard to see where England are going to get him out. Ever. They're pretty much relying on him throwing his wicket away and Smith basically seems like he's batting for his life. I don't think I've seen a batsman more determined never to get out and just keep churning out the runs as well as Smith. He's overtaken peak Ponting in my book as the best Australian batsman in my lifetime. Certainly he's been instrumental in every single win we've had in recent times. The guy is a machine.

It seems to me that the poms have given up this game and accepted defeat. Poor attitude, as an Aussie supporter I would still think that we had a shot at defending 60 odd runs.

60 being the magic number when Aussies think about collapses

I guess they won't do it for balance reasons but Cummins should probably be taking the new ball instead of Starc. Just seems more reliable and consistent than Starc and seems to sense the moments better when he needs to lift and bowl an extra-intense spell for his side. Starc obviously has significant strengths, but he is invariably patchy as a Test bowler and his intensity comes and goes with frustrating regularity.

Well it was all a waste of time speculating on about 'totals' considering England couldn't get one wicket!

I'd love to see Cummins take the new ball with Hazlewood. Honestly Starc usually wastes it anyway and tends to be better with the older ball. Unless he's called out publicly by his captain. Then the next innings he tears through the opposition like a hot knife through butter.

On that same topic, I've said consistently now that Starc is the worst of the big 4 Aussie quicks. Not that he's bad but Cummins, Haze and Pattinson are all ahead of him in my estimation.

100% it was a personal attack. Used to love Sri........then something changed in him a few months ago, can't think what's happened in his life to make him turn so dire:whistling
Ok, here's the deal. I hate AnderClouderson, Swann, Broad and Trott more than any other cricketers that I can sleepily think of atm. Doesn't mean that I suddenly love Australia(except Maxwell) just because I came here a few months ago. If any of those four ****s play a cricket match, I'll support the ones playing against them.
