reckon Haze + Lyon have about 30 runs between them. Add that to whatever Smith scores and Australia are looking pretty good relative to where they were earlier this morning.

Woakes has about 60 runs left to give Aus on a plate.

Root's captaincy is a little Clarke-like in that he's clearly very particular about his field settings but will change them on a whim at the same time

Has been following the ball slightly.

However, the hour after lunch is where he didn't do well.

England bowled poorly in that session. Released the pressure of the morning.

Smith and Cummins batted well.

Cummins reminds me a lot of Smith. His batting is defo the strongest part of his game. I suspect, like Smith, he will eventually give up the ball and concentrate solely on cementing his place in the Australian top order.

Honestly this innings reminds me most of the Lara innings in Sydney. Not for the style of the innings, but for the effect it has on the opposition. I remember thinking that we were in a great chance against the WIndies and then Lara came in and broke all of our hearts. This has much the same feeling, from the English point of view.

The Lara innings was pleasant on the eye.

Aus still 280 odd for 8. You're right... Smith has lived up to his rep and it looks ominous for England... however, the likes of Bancroft, Handjob, Marsh and Paine will hardly be keeping the English up at night. Smith can't bail them out in every innings (can he?).

It's more what the hundred means for the series. It's immense. Smith has basically said to England that their plans won't work against him. He can't be bored out, he can't be bowled out, he can't be bounced out. He's just going to keep making runs regardless of their plans.
