Marsh is easily the least worst decision of the three (third being dropping Renshaw, not necessarily selecting Bankers who has given enough to justify a very serious look at least).
But it's still a poor decision.
Dropping Renshaw is a bad decision.
Selecting Paine is just an out and out piss take.
So six changes from our last Test XI. Ok Starc, Haze and Uzi were non negotiable, Following on from all the chopping and changing and left field nonsense it tells me one thing. These buffoons that call themselves selectors don't even have faith in their own calls, so why should anyone else.
Since the start of last Summer:
- everyone with eyes knew Voges was done. No way should he have played against SA, two losses later and thankfully he gets injured so the selectors don't have to publicly admit to ****ing up.
- everyone with eyes knew Mitchell Marsh wasn't a test batsman. Thankfully we only needed one test for the selectors to admit the **** up, but really it shouldn't have even got near that summer.
- everyone with eyes knew we had better options than P Siddle. Again one last test and the **** up is admitted (only to be doubled down with another **** up...)
- Smarsh gets injured (again)
- Burns gets a recall to replace S Marsh. It was no where near the worst call on this list, but 1 run later the selectors say we ****ed up and drop him again.
- Ferguson finally gets his chance. Doesn't take it, but he'd been in great form for a long time so you give the debutante a shot at getting used to the step up in class? Nah, selectors decide they ****ed up and drop him.
- everyone with eyes knows if you're going to select a bowler from SA his name probably isn't Joe Mennie. After one test selectors decide they ****ed up.
- Finally after two tests where the selectors **** it up twice they get it right and bring Bird in. Third time lucky eh morons?
- Handscomb and Renshaw? Yeah good. Young guys making big scores at the right time, have these dopey selectors finally got it right?
- yeah nah. Two words Nic ****ing Maddinson. I love the Mad Dog, but the **** was in diabolical form. He was never going to work. He didn't work. Far far less reason to be selected than the guy he replaced. Got three tests to Callum's one.
- top order hasn't been making enough runs - so drop the keeper. And replace him with a guy who was scoring less runs in Shield at the time the guy they dropped for not scoring runs was making in Tests. Was always going to be a **** up. Took a year but the selectors admit it.
- but the other young guys have gone good, so replace Maddinson with Cartwright. Good solid batting record in the Shield, bowls a bit of modest meatos. Scores more in one innings than Mad Dog's entire test career. Good looking selection. Looking towards the future, both long term and the forthcoming tour to India right? Wrong. Selectors say they ****ed up and leave him out of the squad for India completely. Replaced by - Mitchell ****ing Marsh of course. What could possibly go wrong?
- Drop Uzi as a precautionary measure to get SMarsh back in. He's a gun spinning track bat right? 18.87 average for the series says yeah nah. Selectors agree they ****ed up and drop him for Bangladesh.
- Two tests of easily predicted dross from MMarsh and the selectors are again admitting they ****ed up.
- Maxy comes in and tons up. Maybe we've got a No.6? Looks like we might actually give him some tests and let him settle in?
- SOK gets dropped from the Bangla squad for being a drunk, fair enough. Replaced by Agar and Swepson. Again fair enough. Looks like the selectors might be otherwise sticking with their selections. yay. Lasts one test.
- Khawaja at least gets one test before he gets dropped. But what is the **** up selectors? Picking him, or dropping him? I say both.
- So having admitted they ****ed up not taking him to India the selectors chuck Cartwright back in. Gets one innings, scores SMarsh's average in India, win Test. Get's dropped for Smarsh for next test at home. Someone has to be ****ing up here.
- Haze gets injured, but it's Chittagong, so play three spinners. Good idea. Warm up young Swepson. No? Emergency call back to SOK? Who's serving a suspension? So was taking Swepson a **** up?
- So obviously Uzi comes back in. That leaves one spot for either Maxy or Cartwright right? Wrong. Of course it's Smarsh back again! So Maxy and Hilton were both **** ups? Dropping Smarsh for Bangladesh was a **** up?
- But wait there's more. Those two selections that could be looked at as successful forward thinking bringing in a young guy? Nah the selectors have now decided that Renshaw was a **** up. The **** only averaged 29 in India after all. Sure it was a higher average than Handscomb, Warner, and Smarsh and he saw off more balls than any Australian bar Smitteh. But he's a selection **** up so he's out and Handscomb, Warner, Smarsh and Uzi are in.
With that history of not having a ****ing clue what they're doing pulling a guy who is third choice keeper for the weakest State in the shield and averaging about 20 with the bat in the last few years out of virtual retirement for the Ashes doesn't seem that far fetched.
