They obviously want Mulder in the setup regardless of the format but he averages close to 100 with the ball in 20/20s (economy above 10) and 45 in List A games.

It's funny because the Lions backed him at death so young too. He has a bit of work to do but he hasn't shirked responsibility for one so young considering it is his 2nd string to his bow even though his u19 bowling was probably better than his batting.

Right now the longer the format the better for him I feel.

There was a shot on a slow Boland Park pitch last season where he just timed it straight back down the ground for 6 that I thought - a bit special.

Definitely the domestic structure. It's something they've been working on, but when you go look at it, even the most experienced 'veterans' of the domestic scene at the moment are just in their late 20s/early 30s, and have either never played cricket outside of BD or just a handful of games for the National/U-19/A teams when they were much younger. A lot of guys who are the top performers are either players who don't have the skillset for International cricket (think darty left arm spinners with dodgy actions taking advantage of the pitches, or batsmen who are either talented but inconsistent or limited but grinders). So many international rejects are just entering their 'prime' now and are supposed to be the generation that is guiding the new breed of youngsters.

It's essentially just a lack of experience and knowledge in the domestic cricket framework. It's going to take some time till BD have enough really good, savvy veterans involved in domestic cricket. They also need more cricketers in their domestic game who have experience of foreign conditions and higher level cricket who can share that knowledge with the upcoming talent.

India only recently have attempted to have a greater variety of conditions for their domestic players to play in, and to arrange more A Team tours for their second/third string talent. It's going to take a while for BD to figure things out and put changes in place to lead to a stronger side.
There are guys like Shahriar Nafees, Tushar Imran, Abdur Razzak for example who still play domestics regularly and also performing in good numbers. Guys from the current setup, academic/u 19 should play more often. There must be a system in place. Players like Soumya Sarkar, Shabbir or Taskin were thrown into the deep end too early. They had limited to no experience in longer version and the result is there for everyone to see. Case in point Shahriar Nafees and co had also similar fate when they made their debut and failed to sustain. So its a vicious cycle. Its like hunting talents in naked eye and throw them into the fire. Majority fail to survive with the exception of few like Shakib/Tamim.

Yea and it would be interesting to see how guys like Tushar Imran and Nafees would do if recalled to the National side now. Do these Domestic performances actually mean anything in terms of evaluating a players quality? Why not take a look and see. Meanwhile guys like Soumya and Shabbir can go back and work on their game.

Puzzled by the selection today. Dropping bowling option to make room for tamim. We are a bowler short and I'll be surprised if SA doesnt make 400. Imrul Kayes should have been dropped.

Miller dropped after not getting a chance to bat last game? Is this purely rotation or has he injured himself?

Injured according to Cricinfo.
I didn't realise Behardien was still in the squad at all. I'm usually really happy for older players who have had mixed or poor careers getting lifelines, but I'm disappointing South Africa couldn't come up with a more interesting selection than him for this game, tbh.

2 quick wickets.

In walks AB on a slow pitch tough to hit boundaries and he gets 50 off 34 balls.

Ridic.

Good to see AB back and looking happy. Nice knock so far but this is some really rubbish middle over bowling.

Miller has to be one of the most injury prone batsman going. He isn’t Rossouw bad but he doesn’t seem to go a series without missing a game or being in doubt with some niggle.

Behardien is rather fit at 34 but if someone seriously stands up I would hate to really see him at the WC in 2 years time.

QdK and Miller will have to be our ODI batsmen ushering in the next gen post WC.
