Great news. Let's just hope they manage him carefully as there's a lot riding on his continued fitness. Probably too much, but that's the current reality of South African cricket.Lungi Ngidi back for Northerns
Yeah. Think with no mainstream level cricket for 6 weeks the odd game for Northerns out of the limelight is best.Great news. Let's just hope they manage him carefully as there's a lot riding on his continued fitness. Probably too much, but that's the current reality of South African cricket.
No deal with the PCB or would that be extra?Domestic T20 looks set to replace Global T20 but many challenges. https://www.iol.co.za/sport/cricket...-set-to-fill-cricket-sas-global-void-11564649
Would have to be both.No deal with the PCB or would that be extra?
Definitely weird weather patterns for years now. The Cape Doctor has got stronger and more prominent in our summer so you not alone in being the windy city anymoreWeather has been even stranger than normal in PE this last week. Not Durban flooding, but some of the sudden torrential downpours have been weird... but we has our always consistent wind to keep us company!
He would be playing in the 50-over for EP today and isn't , with Cloete playing he clearly hasn't travelled. So will need another opener.Replacing Moore? Still out on his European bender? Cos I was wondering how he could actually get a game...
Sad, but not unexpected....Andrew Puttick left out of the Cobras squad. Another stalwart being pushed out slowly.
Some decent rain here yesterday and overnight. They expecting more today but it looks alright at the moment.
I can't see that opening combination changing much for the next 5-10 years when available for the Titans!Markram & Elgar opening for Titans.
I see they have chosen the exrta pace of Bosch over Pretoriys (who has done quite well -certainly put the numbers up).
But read an article where Stephen Cook and Geoffrey Toyana were saying they need to find the pace bowlers again.
In my mind if you going to try make use of a domestic system you need your stalwarts. You need to bat with them, bowl with them , field with them to learn from them.Sad, but not unexpected....

Bosch is the future. Unfortunately with the quota system many stalwarts are going to get pushed out earlier than wanted. Big issues (more than the lack of genuine pace bowlers) is the non-existance of quality black batsmen. If we could find a black Amla/ABdV/Faf the entire test team selection becomes so much easier. Bavuma and Zonda are not bad but have not been quite good enough either.
Is there any real young black batting prospects available? It is difficult to see why that is such a problem for SA cricket.
I dont disagree about stalwarts.... but reality of current system, hopefully not for long... but that is the other discussion. In my mind if you going to try make use of a domestic system you need your stalwarts. You need to bat with them, bowl with them , field with them to learn from them.
Currently no Puttick, van Zyl, Ingram, Birch, Kuhn who are fit and available for this round.
Unfortunately Khomari, mgijima, Ngoepe, Nqolo, Makhanya, Mokoena, Mosehle are nowhere near Bavuma and Zondo.
Look international cricket is tough. We've seen talents such Dippenaar, Rudolph, Duminy not able to step up. McKenzie corrected it second time round. Just think about the numbers guys like Ackerman, A.Jacobs, Z.deBruyn, Benkenstein, M.vanJaarsveld put up for years. Even guys like Puttick, Kuhn, Cook more recently. It isn't easy and can't be forced in my opinion. All you can do is hard work in the junior structures and hope for the best. It is up to the individual from there.
Would be nice to produce a Brian Lara wouldn't it.I dont disagree about stalwarts.... but reality of current system, hopefully not for long... but that is the other discussion.
I dont disagree on international cricket being tough and you need to put up numbers. But you look at it and we have been discussing Breetzke, Markram, Hamza, du Plooy... clear quality players. May or may not step up in the long run but you can really see the potential. And other players can suddenly show real character later. But where is the black batsmen like that? We have never produced one and that is a worry. Bowlers we are fine, even if he does not eventually step up we can discuss Ngidi next to du Pavillion now... anyway it is just a side question.
