At least Younis is still playing but surely you expect he'll be outscored comfortably by 2020 by Williamson or someone.

In the wake of cricinfo's all-time world XI, I got thinking about who the next decade's XI is going to be. Let's assume, for now, that said players have already played more than a handful of matches and are young enough to play for another 8-10 years. I've considered all formats but have unfairly weighted it towards Tests.

Jimmy Anderson and Rangana Herath the leading wicket takers 3/4 of the way through the decade. Think we underestimated the staying power of both.

Went primarily for the top run scorers and top wicket takers with the exception of Dale Steyn who had the lowest bowling average by a mile.

Very tempted to include Sangakkara because he was the only batsman with a 60+ average, but wanted to favour players still playing.

This team pretty much picks itself I reckon except for the toss-up between Herath and Ashwin. Went for Herath due to his Underwood like ability to run through a side when the pitch suits.

We've been predicting this for ages though. Amla etc yet to fall away and the decade's more than 75% over.

I reckon by 2020 the fab 4 are gong to have just as much difference between each other as they do to a few other batsmen (is the gap between Kohli and Pujara, for example, really bigger than the gap between Kohli and Smith?), but CW will probably be one of few places to bring this up while professionals just pick the fab 4 because it's obvious and because meme value. Or because what they're really doing is picking an all-formats XI like I used to like to do.

The exception will be Gob who will pick Virat-Vaughan-Amla for meme value.
