Love Kesh.Keshav has been brilliant, but I don't think he is worlds ahead of Harmer. He isn't old by any means so I hope he does play for SA again.
Shamsi has gone totally off the boil, not sure if people have worked him out or if his control has gone. Possibly a bit of both.Just on the spinners. Who is 2nd choice if they went to India tomorrow - Piedt or von Berg ? Tough one from recent form and A games in the winter.
Shamsi has been disappointing for me. Even for 50-over cricket where wrist-spinners are more in demand. I just don't think he has improved or stepped up to say he can take over from Tahir. Hence Kesh called up for Champs Trophy.
Should be Maharaj - thought he did ok in the England ODIs. Shamsi, Leie and Phangiso as backup in the 20/20s.Not even sure when we go to Asia again so you right, least of our concerns now.
More about who pushes Tahir in 50-overs.
Markram 3, Faf 4 , AB 5 , Miller/Behardien 6 is only option I see ?Could we drop him for markram and do some order rejig? Personally think we need to find a way to include markram in the odI team.
These concerns have been there for Theunis. He was sent to at least 1 spin camp since. But you can't knock the runs he has put up domestically unlike Zondo who has his own demons.Re Zondo, I managed to find a feed of the 2015 SA A vs Ind A L/O series in India at the time; wasn't broadcast in SA AFAIK. His playing of the spinners was by far the most comfortable - confident footwork. Theunis de Bruyn vs Axar Patel was embarrassing - he was totally clueless. Like watching Commins vs Murali all over again! But 2 years is a long time and I hope he's come to grips with Asian spin!
This is Zondo's knock I was talking about: 6th Match, India A Team Triangular Series at Chennai, Aug 13 2015 | Match Summary | ESPNCricinfo .
It always surprises me how not utterly pathetic Behardiens stats are. He really does get too much flak especially when someone like Duminy gets countless chances. For ODI's - just how safe is JP Duminy ?
Announcing that they'd host a four day test before one last consultation with the players seems like a dick move. Lorgat really was a complete hack.
He's one of those players whose poor performances get remembered much more than his good performances. Although because he comes in down the order he doesn't have too many opportunities to play innings of substance, and a 30 off 20 balls doesn't really stick in the memory. It always surprises me how not utterly pathetic Behardiens stats are. Behardien looks like a hack so therefore is treated as one, even though he has done alright for coming low down the order. But Behardien and Miller have blown it for me They are not reliable enough to win a WC and that is the ultimate goal. We need to find somebody for our 6 spot and gave the younger talent a shot.It always surprises me how not utterly pathetic Behardiens stats are. I don't want it to be given test status but I dont see why it could still not be played as a FC game.... call it an exhibition D/N test, dont cancel it altogether.Announcing that they'd host a four day test before one last consultation with the players seems like a dick move. Muthusamy definitely needs to score runs to warrant his place in the side as that is his main suit.Ackermann I'd still say has a moderate chance of coming back. Was a little impatient, and wasn't making nearly enough BIG scores to attract selectors, until last season. Would've been in A side if hadn't jumped ship. De lange outside chance - not technically Kolpak - he's playing on an English passport by sleeping with the enemy (wife is English), BUT you dangle a big enough carrot and I think he'd come back, but would they? Also outside chance is Pillans who isn't mentioned; was a tough gig with Dupavillon, Savage, Phehlukwayo and Engelbrecht all emerging at once (thanks Zulu!) and still trying to keep Abbott and Frylinck happy (and in the end both were p-ed off, though Frylinck stayed on!) Also not mentioned Dieter Klein and Graeme van Buuren (who got a seriously raw deal at Titans...) but I don't think either are likely to come back; neither are Kolpak - Klein is playing on a German passport and van Buuren on an English one.
What do we think of Muthusamy's chances of a call-up for sub-continent? Helps batting, and been doing very well as spinner despite opening batting!? Must say what I saw of him hasn't blown me away; looked very "flat" - more darts...
Muthusamy ended with figures of four for 64, thought Robbie Frylinck’s three for 57 in 22 overs was perhaps more impressive for the home side. The burly all-rounder, who turned 33 this past week, was the only player to play all 30 of the Dolphins’ matches last season. He looks likely to repeat the dose this term, with the KZN outfit missing several strike bowlers.
Lwandiswa Zuma and Daryn Dupavillon are both exciting but injury prone quicks who would add much needed zip to an accurate, but not imposing attack, while Muthusamy’s left-arm spin is developing, but hardly destructive.
Unfortunately I don't see much change. They will float to another world cup.Behardien looks like a hack so therefore is treated as one, even though he has done alright for coming low down the order. I am wondering if a batting line up of Amla, Markram, Elgar, AbdV, Faf, QDK may work.... I know it changes a great combination at the top, but gives us fire power throughout the line-up and for me looks a hellva lot more stable.
