Why the hell are Arsenal trying to offload Mustafi? Especially after shipping off Gabriel. I really do not understand this.

Neither are exactly world-beaters in my view, but they are both solid players, especially Mustafi.

Where is the logic in moving to a 3 at the back system and then selling several senior CBs? Gah.

Also why the hell is this happening now? Why, if it was going to happen at all, did it not happen ages a-****ing-go? Can't wait for the inevitable injuries to pile up and for a Chambers/Holding/Monreal combo for the majority of the season.

Asrenal also should not be selling Kieran Gibbs. Another one who is not a world-beater but is perfectly serviceable and adds depth to the squad.

Some reports that City have offered Sterling plus cash for Alexis. What a lifeline that would be for Arsenal football club.

Don't usually bother with this type of stuff, but a few rumours that players aren't happy with the lack of transfers and Mustafi voiced his concerns to Wenger after the Stoke defeat...

Ergh. Can't blame him I suppose. But this has rapidly escalated into a huge mess. At this rate Arsenal are going to be several key players down with just days of the transfer window remaining.

Sterling in a swap for Sanchez is an offer I would almost certainly take at this stage, but I'm not especially excited at the prospect. Have never especially rated Sterling, and he's hardly one of these "warrior on the pitch" types that all the media are clamouring for Arsenal to sign.

Still preferable to a Sanchez who has decided he can't be arsed though.

Eh, at the moment we're on course to lose our two best players for nothing next summer while we have issues in other positions in the squad. There's not really a magic fix to make the situation brilliant for Arsenal fans but getting a decent young player straight away solves the issue to an extent.

Yeah, there's no panacea to it all, but it's just annoying as this whole situation should, and probably could, have been avoided. But should is a word habitually used in conjunction with Arsenal I suppose. Nothing new to see here.

Sterling would be a perfectly fine acquisition, but he's the kind of player who I could see Arsenal going through Sanchez-gate again with in another handful of years. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Why on earth would Sterling even consider joining Arsenal? Terrible squad about to get worse, not in title contention and not even in the CL. If Wenger can sell him that he should get another 2 year contract extension.

I'm a noted Sterling detractor and still think this is completely nonsensical from City's point of view. If anything, it should be the other way around. Sterling at 22 is worth significantly more than Alexis at 29.

bluemoon is massive meltdown at this, which is pretty accurate to how fans would react if this was true. Thankfully it came from John Cross, so I'd take it with a handful of salt, 'cause he's an idiot and has been massively off all summer on this deal.

Few others reporting it now tbf. Think it would be a bad move for City, but Pep seems like the type of manager who's willing to put aside what's best for the club long term if it means he can get the player he wants for next season.

Tbf as down as I am at the moment, Arsenal have only actually been bad for about 8 months. In the two and a half years before that our results were just as good as City's.

That doesn't mean anything, none of them cite independent sources and all only came out well after the Cross tweet. It came from there.

James Olley reporting that Arsenal have said they have no received a bid.

Arsenal need to do something.

If they end up with a massive transfer surplus the fans are gonna go ballistic.

Wenger talks a monumental about of garbage too. Recently he said Monaco have point blank refused to sell Lemar.. But now it appears he's very much for sale but not at a price Arsenal want to pay.

Arsenal are turning into mid-table plodders, but with the most expensive season tickets in European football.

Now Mullock is out saying City haven't offered Sterling, which basically settles that, he's ironclad on City stuff. The backtracking has already begun from most of the journalists as well. Nothing about it adds up in the form it was reported in. We're already short on homegrown guys and with their age and contract situations there's no way in hell Sterling is worth less than Sanchez.

I imagine the Sterling news is coming from Arsenal. They need players. I doubt whether City will do a swap deal considering Sterling's age.

True but for the purposes of LT's point perceptions matter more.

I mean, things might seem worse than they are because of Sunday's biblically bad performance, but the fact that they seem so bad is what will put players off joining.

Also they're now known as the club where careers go to stagnate. Like a sort of anti-Dortmund.

Now being reported that it's Alexis and cash for Sterling.

Just get this window over, it's the worst I can remember as an Arsenal fan.
