Strange bowling from us. Uncharacteristically loose. In our recent good bowlin efforts we've been quite tight. This was rank bad bowling for 80% of the session. Still, 2 wickets isn't bad, this outfield is extremely fast and the pitch is good. They just need to calm down a bit and show some discipline in the second session.

First half chance either has given then by Root. Both playing well but look like they just having a net it been so easy up to now.

you'd really have to back Root to break the record for most consecutive tests with a fifty+ score.

he's now one away from De Villiers' 12 with 11 himself. Shouldn't be too hard to equal and then pass it in this series

Holder really needs to shine with the bat this series. His bowling is fading away. The 3fers against Pakistan were timely but not enough to really help his claim to be a test calibre bowler. I foresee a tough series here

This WI attack has 2 5th bowlers at best in Holder and Chase and one bloke woefully out of form so no wonder the going has been hard. All England need to do is see off Roach and they can score easily.

and yeah Chase's bowling probably won't end up being that effective often enough. Has already had a couple of good matches with the ball but his average is shocking
