Whatever it takes!!!
Probably for the same reason "hit the ball twice" is still a legit mode of dismissal. Having the batsman hit aggressive strokes when fielders aren't really expecting it is a sure way for someone to get seriously hurt.

Isn't it the same thing the bowler or the fielder is doing though?

BTW you didn't answer my earlier question.

I'm assuming Jadeja must have picked up at least three infraction points for his mustache and so am not surprised to see him banned eventually

I really think the way Smith and Kohli carried on and also let their team members carry on, they should have set out a couple of tests each. I just think it is a case of ICC picking and choosing the least controversial moment to do something so that they are "seen" to be doing something. I mean Rabada got banned for what was nothing in terms of send off to a batsman, if you look at how each wicket was celebrated in this series.

I just read that apparently no one got demerit points for the India/Aus series, which strikes me as absurd, so...

Inconsistent standards mar demerit points system - ESPN Cricinfo

Certainly the application has problems if that's the case, because that's nonsensical.
Yeah that's definitely why I was annoyed at the Rabada suspension. I know it was an accumulation of points but when Kohli didn't get even one slap on the wrist for that whole Australia series, it struck me as pretty ridiculous.

TBH, I dont think he was any worse than Smith on the field. I am not sure if they slap demerit points for off the field stuff.

Shikhar is always fun to watch though. Rahul has been pretty dismal really, very off color and he is still batting on 80. Tells you a lot about the conditions and the opposition, unfortunately.

All that said though, tests can change in a matter of 3 or 4 overs. The toughest part for many good sides is to keep it going when things seem too easy coz they can become difficult in no time.

Dhawan looks like a million bucks on days like these. But we all know his next dip in form is just around the corner.
