Swapping Moeen and TRJ in the batting order and he doesn't even face a ball today. I don't understand cricket.

Yeah I think it's South Africa's day. Ordinarily 6 down would be okay but restricting the run rate all day has left us missing a trick after getting to bat first.

What makes this decision worse is that toblerone (i don't think it's going to catch on howe, but i will try) will have to try and play properly rather than try and pull off some big shots which he's pretty good at.

Saffers day but if we can scrap to 320 I won't mind. Looks a pitch that will break up badly and with weather Saffers may have to go harder than they'd want

Both these teams love a 50 and out, don't they?

If no one tons up in the remaining three innings, this will be the fewest tons scored in a long series in the 21st century.

Didn't the India-SA 2015 series have only two centuries (both by Rahane in the last Test, I think)? This one has had 3 already.

The 2nd Test of that series was heavily truncated, though.

For different reasons though. That series it was just ridiculously hard to get centuries on those pitches. Don't think that's the reason here.

South Africa's day just about, but fascinating day of Test cricket, and swung a fair few times, and as always when it's tight, the next session vital.

He's caught that imo

edit: ugh whatever
Looked blatantly out to me. Boycott was absolutely adamant it hadn't carried in a pathetic piece of cheerleading.

The ball that went off Wesley's thigh to the cordon was a ****ing appalling drop from Amla. Obviously meant nothing because it didn't hit the bat but not a good look for a first slip.

I can't tell which of Jennings's dismissals this series has been more pathetically half-arsed.

That original post was the Bairstow one I believe.

Man that last wicket really slams us, need another 60-100 to post a decent score. There is help there for bowlers but it's by no means a bad pitch to bat on.

Agree with the Root comments from many earlier. Arrogant shot, Olivier clearly isn't a world beater but he's also not a part timer to walk down the pitch at. Maybe when you're 150* but not*.

I'm not too disappointed at being 260/6 with Bairstow at the crease with TRJ and Mo still to come and I think we should still be a good shout to get up to 350+. Only watched the first session but from what I saw 350 will have us right in the game.
