He's had 9 innings, been caught 7 times and trapped LBW twice, whether or not that means he's fixed his issues I don't know, but we need a change and having 3 lefties at the top of the order just seems like sending the lambs out to slaughter against Vern at the minute.Would be ok with that. I haven't seen anything of Robson to know if he's fixed his technical issues but if he has stopped getting bowled constantly that would be great.
Just thinking of this series a RH opener would be a better shirt term pick against Vern. It's not like hes crap against them tho.
Even without the shadow of Big Vern I think a RH/LH combo opening is always a plus. He's had 9 innings, been caught 7 times and trapped LBW twice, whether or not that means he's fixed his issues I don't know, but we need a change and having 3 lefties at the top of the order just seems like sending the lambs out to slaughter against Vern at the minute.
You'd think so, but our best opening combos in recent times have probably been Strauss & Tres and Strauss & Cook, so who's to say.Even without the shadow of Big Vern I think a RH/LH combo opening is always a plus.
Agreed, but the best players available should be picked in normal circumstances regardless of RH/LH combo. I want us to play the following for the next test:Even without the shadow of Big Vern I think a RH/LH combo opening is always a plus.
cc PrattersWow, great ball. Morris is actually good.
Hopefully.Be all over by tea.
Steyn, Philander, Morkel and Rabada doesn't bear thinking about for the rest of us.if Steyn gets fit and AB regains his desire this is still the best test side in the world.
I don't know we played some truly **** shots in the first dig. The biggest issue with the bowling is that Anderson and Broad did their usual clever trick of wasting new ball and golden conditions by refusing the pitch the thing up, oh and Wood has been dog ****.Hopefully.
That ball from Morris does rather support the view that the difference in bowling has been a much bigger factor than the difference in batting in this test.
Not that we produce much in the way of sensible alternatives there, either.
Imagine having kyle abbott in there as wellSteyn, Philander, Morkel and Rabada doesn't bear thinking about for th rest of us.
I'm not sure there's been much evidence that the openers have cancelled each other out; not with the first new ball, anyway.Wood's historically been pretty poor at backing up in consecutive Tests.
In the end, the third/fourth bowler will probably go further to deciding the series - with Anderson, Broad, Philander and Morkel cancelling each other out a bit over two Tests so far.
Morris and Maharaj stood up in the 2nd Test, Ali in the first.
