Yeah, but the trouble Faf has is how long does he bowl this pair for. If he bowls them too long they won't be able to come on till a bit after tea and the pressure will be released. I'd be tempted to take Morkel off soon and then he follows Philander to keep an end with real pressure.

I could be wrong, but I think Beefy is party talking bollocks here about Trent Bridge being a batsman's pitch "in his day"*, there was less swing, but like with most pitches then, more seam bowling conditions, and it broke up more, which helped all bowlers.
* Just checked, 1 draw in the 7 Tests he played clearly a bowlers nightmare.
Definitely swings more now though.

I should have put money on it.
It's a real problem for Root. I mean who can really complain about block averaging 54 and scoring a boat load of runs.
But when he's set he should be scoring match winning innings. We now have to regroup and have had to numerous times.

That was only his fourth century in the last 20 or so times he got to 50.
The other three don't give it away as freely as he does.
Until he fixes that he's the poor relation.
Yes it seems harsh but at the absolute pinnacle this is the kinda thing that separates players.

Root's never been prolific at scoring hundred's he's never scored more then 3 in a year, he wont get another in this series but he might get 1 against WI... I hate Smith but 3 times he's scored more then 3 tons in a year and is already on 3 this year from only 5 matches. He's a level above Root and that's not easy to admit.

Yup last 21 times (including this knock) he crossed 50 he went on to score century only 4 times as compared to Smith who converted 10 off his last 21 50's to 100's.
