*** Official*** South Africa in England 2017

My biggest hope, this pissers Rabada off for the 2nd innings and he goes all out crazy eyes on the England batsmen.

And this may just keep Duminy spot in the team, cause we don't have another bowler in the team of colour. So we cant drop Duminy for Faf! Now that is the quotas giving a double **** to the situation.

This is such a beautifully disgusting illustration of administrative mentality. Amazing really. No brains, just bluster.

Errr...... they do.

But if it is aimed at another player (or an official) it is not acceptable.
Please. Again, go by the book all you want, but then don't expect not to be called brainless.

Equating saying it to a player with saying it to an official. Talk about not having played an actual game before.

Not acceptable only if it is meant. Like when you get into someone's face and you say it because you mean it. If you take a wicket and say "**** off" as the player is passing by, which is what happened here, it doesn't have anything to do with the meaning of those words.

Fine at best. But giving a point when you know it makes him miss the next test makes you an administrative dumbass.

Friggin bulldust absolutely screwing the team. I guess they could put Lucky in place of JP, Faf in for De Bruyn and Olivier in for Rabada

Rabadas suspension is a real setback. Olivier/Morris are good bowlers, but obviously not on Rabadas level.
As StephenZA mentioned, JP is virtually guaranteed a game now as well.

Yesterday's play was very disappointing in the morning, but the fight from De Bruyn and Bavuma was good. Bavuma tends to come to the party when we are in trouble.

I don't even know any other bowler who's been given points for saying "**** off" to a batsman after getting him out. It's one of the most common things to say and an entirely reasonable way of expressing emotion, given that you want the game to be played by humans who are giving it their all and not subdued robots. And if a player has never seen it being enforced, it's not stupid to think it won't be selectively applied to him. Ridiculous law to begin with and an equally ridiculous application of it imo.
is it? sounds a bit dubious tbh.

the idea that a '**** off' send off is commonplace is inherently untrue.

If they're now going to be clamping down on abuse like this then is language going to become a factor? I would imagine that most of the time things are said in English so that the player it's being directed at will understand what's being said, but players don't always end up playing for the country of their birth so there could be scenarios like Imran Tahir delivering a few choice phrases when playing against Pakistan (although he's unlikely to give anyone a send off as he'll be too busy charging off to the boundary) or insults in Afrikaans flying about when there are South African born players on either side. While tone and body language would indicate the intent behind a comment, how much punishment can the officials actually mete out if they don't know what's being said?

It's not commonplace but I know that you know how it happens and why it happens. Fast bowlers say it because they have to run in all day and they are tired and it feels awesome when they get that wicket at long last. Anyone who plays sports knows how that feels and it has nothing to do with giving offense to the opposition player.

Indeed. They've set a precedent and now they're going to have to apply it consistently. Obviously they won't though.
But the way to set a precedent is to first give a warning. Shouldn't give a point which will lead to missing a game. That's completely unreasonable.

the fact that the majority of the time they don't do it means they can control it. that one time they do send a batsman off as a result should not be indulged.

Send offs are one of the most cowardly things to do on the field imo. The batsman has no right way to respond, apart from walking off.

Telling someone to **** off once they are out isn't something that should be acceptable on the cricket field imo. It's an incendiary comment meant to infuriate the batsman.

Stokes got a couple of seperate demerit points this winter. Rabada only got one point on his record for this. His problem was that he had 3 from a separate incident. They aren't banning people for one send-off.

The players know the systems is in place.

He already had points. Had he been on 0 points he wouldn't miss a match, it is his own stupid fault.

I am not a big fan of the ruling but it is hard to have sympathy for the player when he would know he is close to a ban.
