- Worked ok for 1980's West Indies, and I can't see any reason it couldn't work here
- Why couldn't Maxwell just do that job of a spinner by himself? If you have 4 quicks firing you don't need your spinner to bowl 25 overs a day and take a 5-for
This is all assuming it's not a real turning/slow wicket where are specialist spinner would be more than useful.
Just playing devils advocate.
Starc and Hazlewood are and I think Pattinson is there too on current form. Cummins isn't far behind either.
wait wut. If anything Pattinson is the clear best of the 4 IMO, and that has nothing to do with whatever he's been doing in Britain this winter. He's always been the best and most destructive when not ****ed up with injuries.This. Pattinson clear number 4 (I don't care how many 2nd div CC sides he's wrecked) and by picking 4 quicks, you're trading wicket-taking (and injury) potential for a proven Test wicket-taker who also happens to be able to do a job if necessary.
I love watching all four but, for now, the selectors will chooose three. Right now, correctly, Pattinson is out.
Fast bowlers can't bowl with the old ball? No that's irrelevant. The over rate thing is the real issue. It surprises me in this argument re. 4 quicks vs 3 quicks plus best available spinner, that people seem to forget the ball gets old.
So he is making a comeback afterall...Warne
CA are so obsessed with Cummins it's starting to get weirdAccording to a weekend paper contract offers have been sent to the top 5 players
Smith, Warne, Starc, Hazlewood and... Cummins.
I thought this at first too, but when you think about it he's the only guy (aside from the other four who also got top five offers) who'd probably make the first XI in all three formats. Maxwell is the only other one you could make an argument for and I think they might have seen his Test selection in India as a horses for courses thing rather than a genuine first XI for all conditions thing.CA are so obsessed with Cummins it's starting to get weird

Of course they can bowl with the old ball. Whether they are threatening with it, or whether they are canon fodder with it, are the issues.Fast bowlers can't bowl with the old ball?
Matthew Wade could potentially be close to that fifth spot too. Obviously a less ***y selection though.I thought this at first too, but when you think about it he's the only guy (aside from the other four who also got top five offers) who'd probably make the first XI in all three formats. Brings a tear to TJB's eye. WPNCOS doing his thing.Of course they can bowl with the old ball. Whether they are threatening with it, or whether they are canon fodder with it, are the issues.
Balls get old, pitches deteriorate. Cricket isn't all played on day 1 with a new ball. Four quicks aren't gonna manage this...
What does WPNCOS stand for?
As I said multiple times, 4 quicks when appropriate.Of course they can bowl with the old ball. Whether they are threatening with it, or whether they are canon fodder with it, are the issues.
