A lot of the time it's out of the umpires hands. There are complications which arise with a rain delay happening around a break, or with groundsmen trying to protect their outfield/pitch and not wanting players on a certain amount of time after it stops raining. Also it sometimes looks like it could rain very shortly after you've come off, and so umpires tend to go the cautious route of staying off rather than going on and the coming back off just minutes later.

All I'm saying is that it's a lot harder and more complex than it looks, and it would be great if these 'experts' from the media could actually sit down with a match official or with the lawbook and playing conditions and inform viewers about why the umpires are doing what they are doing, and the reasoning behind the decisions, rather than just bitch about how we should be playing but are not.
yeah no i'm pretty sure nothing will make "the sun is shining, the ground is ready, the players want to play but nothing is happening" ever acceptable to the viewing public

jesus ***** umpires like four u-12 six a side games and he thinks he's some sort of spokesperson for the officials

there's a glorious counter attacking partnership going on but everyone is either fixated on talking about umpiring or having petty arguments about whos unfunny joke was unfunnier.

behave yourselves.
I mean, I literally won an award for my umpiring this season, so forgive me if I'm letting it get to my head.

Also I'm not going to comment on the batting because I'm sure the moment I do I'll jinx it and I really really really want England to win this

Well seeing as they won't have seen much of him it worth a couple of overs surely. Awful captaincy if that the reason. I presumed Head came on to give Zampa the bigger boundary when he replaced Cummins.
at this point i'm honestly suspecting that in smith's mind, the word "can't" in that post is in the sense of "not allowed"

Ben Stokes hits the ball very, very hard. It's unnecessarily hard. Hits leather like his family was wronged by a cow.

This is so good..to see England carry on their devastating way against the best LO attack and still get away with it.

Don't have to make it acceptable. Just support the match officials. Don't bitch them out on TV for all those watching. Don't throw them under the bus for just doing their jobs. You all work in cricket you should have each other's back. As mentioned, it's sad that they never call out the real incompetent people in cricket (Admins), but instead just ignorantly abuse those who by and large generally do an excellent job.

Okay imma drop this topic on that.

I like Zampa's haircut
