I wonder what Shane Warne makes of Head bowling before the leggie?
Doesn't like it lol but Nass made the important point - that the leg spinners in LO today are not even aiming for the outside edges anymore...so you an easily aim for lbs with your leggies

It makes for terrible commentary. Especially if you consider trying to sell the sport to casual cricket fans - imagine tuning in and just hearing these so-called 'experts' bash umpires and match officials and organisers as being dumb and incompetent. You'll think the sport was run by clowns. How could you take it seriously?
You could certainly claim the game is run by clowns, so long as you're referring to certain boards. But while we have commentary that has a go at match officials, they are actively paid to support the boards.

All the reasons and stuff you said is great, and I'm sure it's important for some reason, but I think what people roll their eyes at is that they see all that stuff you mentioned as being affected by these minor time changes as not actually important

Not saying that's what I think, but how important is it really that they wait those 3 minutes? Is it really that terrible if they confuse a scorer for a few seconds trying to work out exactly how many minutes someone's batted for? Or that they have to move their over-rate calculations back by a minute? I mean really?
The things you cite specifically there aren't important, what are important are overrate calculations, time for the scheduled breaks, television crews being in place. Off the top of my head. I'm sure a more experienced high level umpire can cite a few more things that are time-crucial.

You tell the captains, team managers, the match referee, third and fourth umpires, broadcasters, groundsmen a starting time. They all get ready by then. You have all your calculations in place by then. And there are a few minutes to go and we're all set. Is it worth going around and telling all those people, redoing the calculations, changing up the times written down, etc just because we have 3 minutes to go? That alone will burn up 5 minutes. It's ridiculous. No one's going to ****ing do that. You just wait the 3 minutes and start at the time you announced you would start. Done.

most people are fine with this, they just think that umpires should be far, far less cautious about setting start times. often there's a sizeable gap between the ground being ready and play starting which is entirely unnecessary.

Following Mossedek Hossain's 3 wickets yesterday, Henriques must be desperate to regain his title as the world's number one allrounder called Moses.

It's one he always thought he'd have

jesus ***** umpires like four u-12 six a side games and he thinks he's some sort of spokesperson for the officials

there's a glorious counter attacking partnership going on but everyone is either fixated on talking about umpiring or having petty arguments about whos unfunny joke was unfunnier.

behave yourselves.

A lot of the time it's out of the umpires hands. There are complications which arise with a rain delay happening around a break, or with groundsmen trying to protect their outfield/pitch and not wanting players on a certain amount of time after it stops raining. Also it sometimes looks like it could rain very shortly after you've come off, and so umpires tend to go the cautious route of staying off rather than going on and the coming back off just minutes later.

All I'm saying is that it's a lot harder and more complex than it looks, and it would be great if these 'experts' from the media could actually sit down with a match official or with the lawbook and playing conditions and inform viewers about why the umpires are doing what they are doing, and the reasoning behind the decisions, rather than just bitch about how we should be playing but are not.

because steve smith is convinced that leg-spinners can't bowl to left handers
Well seeing as they won't have seen much of him it worth a couple of overs surely. Awful captaincy if that the reason. I presumed Head came on to give Zampa the bigger boundary when he replaced Cummins.
