It is generally good in that one more win will definitely put them through now. There is no longer an eminently possible scenario where Bangladesh get beaten 3 times with England, Australia and New Zealand rock paper scissors each other and one of the trio goes out on NRR (NZ & Australia would typically beat Bangladesh by a bigger margin than England did)

It's very good for England because they now need one win to go through. The team they beat will have a maximum of 3 points (by beating Bangladesh, who would have max 2), but England would have 4.

Got up and read through the commentary in cricinfo, trying not to see the result, looked set to be a very competitive match until the commentary abruptly ended with rain. NZ would have been pleased to have 3 wickets but Smith still there so anyone's game at that point.

Also, NZ's lollapse from a massive platform would not surprise a single person that's followed this side in the last 18 months. That is exactly what this side does over and over again, with positions 5 and down stocked with players who at best take a while to get going, or are spuds that only score against poor bowling sides, or are just plain spuds. None have a clue how to approach things if they come in with 10 overs to go just as the scoring rate is supposed to be ramping up. De Grandhomme a slight upgrade over Anderson for the next match imo, but it will still be a weakness.

I was thinking about this at the time and this is right.

However those permutations thrown out again if there are more rain-outs, which doesn't look unlikely.

Hastings was better than Starc but I don't think we can drop Starc. Cummins was awful early on but seemed to be pivotal layer on. Haze was a legend.
