Question on ban announcements

Watson should cop it big time for that post. He's sailed close to the wind with his crap for a while now, but this post was essentially an overtly racist statement. A slap on the wrist ban would imply a sort of tolerance for this sort of direness.

He's pretty much stuff just as awful before, he just frames it in a weirdly polite way and makes it subtle enough to avoid people reacting with outrage.

He has. That's actually why there's a delay in the ban announcement, because the infraction system makes it hard to work out how long the ban is.

By all means please let me assist.

I'd suggest the below infraction would be appropriate here.

Disparaging comments on race/***uality/personal circumstances (50,90)

Haha, if he's not given the infraction I mentioned above I'd be very keen to hear why.

I mean, if what he said was not a disparaging comment based on race, I'd love to know what is.

It's mostly that the 40-60 infraction point mark is full of different ban length thresholds, so any previous points will make a large difference to how long the ban is.

Yeah that's what was given.

Just perma him. You know you want to.
Think he's earned another go. After 90 days, i.e.

Harsh's your man for that, though he may end up accidentally deleting half the threads on here as well..
James is deleting my threads nowadays :(

What happened to Watson? He seemed pretty normal then I didn't read the forum for a year or so and he'd turned into a complete dick. He was far worse than I ever was and there didn't seem to be any humour in it. Trolling Internet forums is so old hat it's ridiculous.

Please don’t make it obvious I knew ages ago :)

Let's face it, if Watson had come in a year ago and posted as he did as a new poster, he'd have been off the site as quick as anything.

there's been far too much leeway giving to him because he was a long-term poster. That nonsense about "oh I've just discovered Milo look at what he says", when he was clearly indoctrinated in those views for ages, and his arguments showed it afterwards. If that was a new poster they'd have been called on it immediately, for trolling and forum atmosphere, it was guff, for every post.

I'm Sorry but NZTailender called him on it with a decent joke about being upset when his side lost, about Downfall, and got chastised by a few posters. Why? Watson is advocating white suprenacy, it seems clear cut.

I think one thing the alt-right has got right is that some of us are too chickenshit to criticise "wrong" behaviour, but the ironic thing is that they have got a much easier ride than they should have. "Let's not punch a Nazi, because there are some people who want universal health care that I disagree with, and you wouldn't think it's right to punch them,". It's too much keyboard intellectualisation whataboutness of fairly basic things.

People need to realise the difference between views that are hateful, and those who are just different. Punch a nazi or a hate preacher if they say disgusting things.

Yet, hey it's why I'd never be a mod, and shouldn't be allowed to be one.

The only good thing to come out of watson's time here is this:

Since he didn't bite, I'll just say this.

Can I punch an alt-right supporter in the face and call it an alt-handshake?
Yes, you can and you should.

Just call them Nazis, not this alt-right bullshit. That's what they are.

FMD, this idea people have about having a reasoned debate and peaceable disputes with Nazis. You can't because they aren't reasoned and they aren't peaceful ffs. Shut it down now, and do it with whatever it takes.

JFC I can't believe this ****. Once someone espouses views in favour of ethnic cleansing, apartheid and/ or white supremacy, they lose the right to be either taken seriously or to have people engage them in civil discourse. These people are ****ing Nazis ffs. These ****s are espousing views which led to the deaths of millions of people, and not in ancient history, within living memory for a lot of people. You don't sit down over a cup of coffee for a round table discussion with people like that. The moment they stick their head up, you kick it. and you kick it until they don't stick it up any more.

Spencer says he isn't a Nazi, but he adheres to everything they stood for. He's said himself he doesn't ID as one because the term is an "historical one which won't resonate today" Yeah well, a **** bag by any other name is still a bag full of steaming excrement. Nazi ****ing pigs. How the **** can these ****s be getting widespread and mainstream air time, like their views are simply a slightly different take on sociology, economics or whatever? They aren't. They're obscene and I hope they rot in hell, preferably sooner rather than later.

Yeah, it was this post in question that copped it. On general grounds it's plainly unacceptable; but given the forum's membership it frankly lives in a completely different timezone to okay. Watson is entitled to his views and entitled to express them, but he has been here long enough to know who posts here and frankly should know better.

And if he doesn't care about that, then (just a personal IMO) he should find somewhere else to post.
watson's only mitigating factor is that he's relatively easy to ignore.

Bun excepted, easily the direst poster I've encountered on here. With other posters I've stuck on my ignore list or had run ins with, it's been personality clashes where the other person probably isn't a bad sort, very ocassionally you might get a headcase who just posts like a wanker, but I don't think I've ever seen someone as consistently offensive as watson.
