Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

China watch (cont'd): 74 against Qatar today, though at one point they were 61-4 ... two of their batsmen got into double figures which is a first I'm guessing. Their final match against Bahrain tomorrow, can they scale the Everest of three figures?

Also worth noting that they restricted Qatar to just 339, they're making huge strides forward in all areas of their game.

Turns out they can't - 65 all out, which Bahrain chased down in 6 overs for the loss of one wicket. Hardly China's worst showing of the tournament, but perhaps a somewhat disappointing finale when so many of us were expecting something big from them.

Anyway, a selection of stats from China's tournament:

  • They scored a total of 288 runs across the tournament, so a team average of 48. They got to 50-60 a few times, but never much further, so these conversion issues are going to have to get sorted out pretty quick if they want to become a serious force in world cricket.
  • Their leading run scorer was Zhang Yu Fei with 46 @7.66. However, Ye Weiji had 42 @ 10.50, but inexplicably was only selected for 4 of the 6 matches.
  • Zhang Yu Fei was also their most economical bowler by some margin (6.44) and the 2nd highest wicket taker, with 6 @ 38.50. Remember the name.
  • As a bowling unit, their tournament economy rate was 7.96

It resembles a Rugby League shirt to me, though I do not know what is going on with that weird square neck.

£80 for the shirts apparently. Any takers?
