Their conveyor belt is ridiculous.

The Northersn team has mainly been playing Stefan Klopper, Grant Thomson, Thomas Kaber, Ruben Claasen, Migael Pretorius and Eldred Hawken for the 5 'white spots' in recent weeks. Considering the shift of guys like Markram, Klaasen, von Berg being used more regularly by the Titans this season and they've still made 1-day and 3-day finals. They then bring in a 20 year-old opening batsman called Ruben Herman and he is away with 122 on debut last weekend.

They also producing more POC which the union hasn't really done much of with guys like Rivaldo Moonsamy , Tony de Zorzi and Lungi Ngidi etc
Are most of the guys from Tuks? Is that their secret?

CSA to revisit franchise expansion? | Sport24

Potential sensible decision by the CSA???
It's good and bad. How long will it take to get the increased number of franchises ? I still think picking who it is will be problematic.

But we can't be sitting here seeing some players in Provincial cricket who deserve to be professional cricketers and getting the opportunity to test themselves and compete for higher honours.

Has to play a huge part. AB, Faf, Kuhn, Morkel's all of the older vintage and the recent one's like de Bruyn, Markram, Klaasen, Ngidi and the current one's like Hermann, de Zorzi, Kaber, van Buuren, de Swardt, Pretorius clearly are the future as well.

I just came across Theo Garrun's blog and he talks about one of the names I mentioned above. Quite an honest and revealing piece. Luckily after missing out on SA Schools he made the SA u19 side and will now captain the SA Academy team.

My two cents: We have to do this better - Linkis.com

BTW this said player is Mitchell van Buuren.

Remember Wiaan Mulder saying he had to console him afterwards as he was in tears. They good mates having played junior levels for Gauteng together.

Started off extremely well in post SA u19 cricket for Tuks/Titans Academy scoring hundreds and taking wickets with his leg-spin so will follow him with interest.

That has got to be one of the most balanced takes on this issue.. putting the realistic and practical facts next to a human face directly effected by politics and bullshit. This is a failure for many youngsters in this country....

So true.

If anything some of our youngsters have to grow up with a thicker skin earlier than most. Just to possibly get anywhere.

That's the thing with these policies - there are real people getting upset and hurt by them.

That said, not getting picked for a cricket team cause you're white is not comparable to being carted off to the Transkei or having to have an internal passport to travel in your own country cause you're black, but there are actual individuals who get hurt by these things.

The professional season finishes today with the MODC final between Warriors and Titans.

Jon-Jon Smuts says it's an Eastern Cape thing to be scrappers.

All week, all anyone’s heard from the Titans players and their coach Mark Boucher about the team they’ll face in the Momentum One-Day Cup final at SuperSport Park on Friday afternoon is that “they’re real scrappers.”
It’s a description, Warriors skipper Jon-Jon Smuts is clearly proud of. “It’s an Eastern Cape thing,” he said with a smile om Thursday. “We’ve always been referred to like that - scrappers - as the Warriors, even when Mark Boucher played there - that’s probably where he got it from. It’s a ‘never say die’ attitude that we adopt.”

That characteristic was on display in their stirring comeback in the play-off match on Monday night against the Knights, who had appeared in control of their chase and then fell well short as the Warriors turned up the pressure in the final 10 overs

“We’ve always stood up in adversity, when we’ve looked like we were down and out in a competition, we’ve had to win four in a row to qualify for final or play-off, we’ve done that a few times, that’s where the term has come from,” said Smuts.

“I think it’s changing in the last few years, especially in white ball cricket we’ve been a lot more consistent, we’re making it to play-off games a lot more regularly, it obviously shows that we’re not just scrapping to win the last four games. But to be able to (perform well more consistently) and still have people wary of us (for our tenacity) is something we hold close to our hearts.”

Albie stressing game not played on paper

By almost all measures the Titans should win on Friday night. They’ve beaten the Warriors comfortably in both league matches this season, they have more experience in their team and, as Boucher pointed out, plenty of firepower in their dressing room.

“On paper it looks like we are stronger,” said skipper Albie Morkel, “but you don’t play the game on paper.”

Having been on this stage many times before, the Titans have attached particular importance to being patient. “There’s a lot of overs in 50-over cricket. Sometimes teams don’t play that way, they feel they are playing 30 overs and get ahead of themselves,” said Boucher.

Levi and Parnell don't look happy.

And Levi's been dodging salads it looks like.

Just how ? It's a charity. The union is a joke. Eddie Barlow will be turning in his grave.

Cobras Player of the Year: Aviwe Mgijima

Mgijima struck eight half-centuries during his season.

In the Sunfoil Series, he was the glue that kept the lower order together and inspired them to spirited fight-backs with a number of excellent contributions, including his best of 73 for the season.

He struck 431 runs at an average of 28.73 in the Sunfoil Series, and assembled 246 runs at an average of 30.75 in the One Day Cup competition.

Normally the best talents show they've got it from young and he blatantly does. Finesse and power in one.
