jungle grass kills test matchesit really should be legalized though
Yeah I guess the main downside is that even if Khawaja wouldn't have done any better (he almost certainly wouldn't have, IMO), picking Marsh has kind of robbed Khawaja (a younger, overall better batsman) the chance of some experience here moving forward.Borderline case IMO. I think his contributions mattered more than Khawaja's would've, and for that matter Warner's, but it wasn't a great series. Genuine question marks about whether it was worth it if Australia do go on to lose this Test.
Can't believe I'm rooting for 2 Victorians to save us. I feel so dirty.
I think if you smashed Marsh's knee in with a crowbar it would've been Khawaja replacing him for those Tests rather than Maxwell, tbh.Yeah, you have to look at him as a direct exchange for the most likely replacement. In Pune and Bangalore, that was Maxwell.
175+ chase would make them favourites IMOthis game isn't over yet. Wade and Maxwell could both very easily play their unorthodox, #intent batting and put on another rapid 50 or so runs here, plus the Aussies have a strong tail. And they have worked way too hard for this series to surrender meekly now.
Even a 150 chase could be ****ing difficult, we saw how well Lyon, Haze and Cummins bowled. And this is the final innings with all on the line. They're going to be ****ing ruthless.
Game not over yet.
yea Renshaw started with the rep of playing the line and not following the late movement away but his nick today was the complete opposite.Watching these dismissals and Australia regressing into following the moving ball. Renshaw and Handscomb in particular, though tbf it's been quality bowling
The problem with this logic is that easy runs also actually matter. Those performances win games too. Marsh did well second innings in Ranchi for example but if he'd made more than 2 in the first innings maybe Australia would have made 500+ the game would have been different. More pressure on India, they don't make 600, and Australia win. Who knows. That said I do think he was the right selection call but you can't ignore his failures when runs are easy just because he makes decent contributions when it's hard.Numbers can suck a fat one imo. He's contributed two vital innings this series in tough conditions. That's a passing grade comfortably from me.
Yeah you're probably right. I was just trying to be as charitable as possible to the anti-Marsh PoV, which is to assume the best possible replacement would have come in.I think if you smashed Marsh's knee in with a crowbar it would've been Khawaja replacing him for those Tests rather than Maxwell, tbh.
This only strengthens your overall point, but I think it's a bit hindsighty to assume Maxwell would've played. In the leadup to the first Test Lehmann was talking about maybe playing Khawaja for Renshaw.
Break his thumbs imoYeah you're probably right. I was just trying to be as charitable as possible to the anti-Marsh PoV, which is to assume the best possible replacement would have come in.
Why the crowbar anyway? Why not shoot him or fire him out of a cannon?
Vertical bat/straight bat shots combined with not defending a lot of balls, which has not made him look troubled. Been a good knock.Anything can happen after tea but imma say this anyway. Maxwell looks like he's batting on a different deck to everyone else out there so far #intent
