Credit where due, he's been great this innings. It appears he's back to batting in his own bubble, it's when he's batting in that fashion he is at his best. I don't think he's batted this well since the 2015 tour to Australia.

Not sold on Santner as a batsmen or bowler. How is Ish progressing in FC cricket?

I have Smith head and shoulders above the rest with Kohli second and Kane and Root tied.

Root has conversion issues, Kohli has been a match winner for India for the last year.

Kane hasn't looked anywhere near his best in over a year. Thought the captaincy had finished him, hopefully this isn't a one off performance.

Tbh I haven't seen enough of Root in particular recently, though he scored quite a few runs on the tour of India (averaged 50-ish iirc).

Santner saved by the no ball and non review earlier...He's a waste of spot atm, not quite ready for Test cricket as a batsmen or bowler.

Great work from Raval and KW today but golly NZ need to fix this middle order.

If NZ's next home and away assignments are 9 and 18 months away, I would really hope a couple of A tours are put together in that time. Occurred to me that Taylor is now 33 and probably doesn't have a lot of time left in the game. Need to identify a long-term replacement soon IMO.

santa is well worth his spot. in a world where our specialist spinners are either extremely hit or miss, his reliable chipping in with wickets and ability to lengthen the batting by being a genuine FC allrounder down at #8 means that we get a reliable cricketer who is young enough to get a lot better

jesus, taylor might have 5 tests left in his career given it's 5 games in 18 months, and he'll be 34-35 by then

i look forward to nz using this 18 months to do absolutely no planning towards the future middle order
