Closer followers of FC cricket might correct me (his FC record is sort of neither here nor there on this point- fairly normal conversion rate) but Raval strikes me as someone who grinds so hard for his runs that he'll find it hard to make big hundreds. Mark Richardson was sort of the same at test level, where every 70 or 80 felt like such an epic struggle that Big Daddy Hundreds felt like a bridge too far.

For an NZ opener that's fine tbh.

Yeah the only reason to get aggressive here is if we reckon there's going to be a particular amount of rain that still gives us a chance but only if we score faster. And even if that's the case, we have no idea how much rain or how fast we need to score. Seems a spurious basis for a dangerous change of approach from a dodgy batting side.

It's true in part, though he had a surprisingly good domestic T20 competition this year, so (unlike Richardson) he does have some ability to play an attacking style of innings.
