In auckland if it hammers down overnight, usually the drainage system at eden park is good enough. Not here. Similar to the farce at Napier with the odi

Not surprising. Eden Park is the premier sports venue in our country's largest city. Seddon Park is a specialist cricket venue (and a very old one) in a mid-sized town. They can't afford to upgrade the outfield in the same way that Eden Park can.

Nz cricket needs to do something about it. We cant control the weather but surely we cant have situations like in napier where it was sunny the whole day , yet no cricket got played.

Agree with Mike5181 though that any problematic patches of outfield should be covered when there's rain, even if it makes the surrounding areas a bit wetter. If the groundstaff haven't done that then I'd like to know why. Shouldn't have one bad patch repeatedly affecting play for the whole test match.

Strangely, forecast for the afternoon now shows only 0.2mm of rain whereas when I checked this morning, everything post-lunch looked a total write-off.

I suppose in those countries they might just rely on sun/heat to evaporate the water that ends up pooling on the covers, whereas that wouldn't really work most of the time in NZ.
