Well batted. Forecast for tomorrow is horrendous though, so may not get much play. Tuesday and Wednesday looking better.

Talk of the wicket being a Bunsen burner didn't pan out. Bit of turn on offer but it’s so slow and I can't see the pitch breaking up. There is more in it for the quicks but overall is a good batting wicket. South Africa would be well short of a decent total if weather wasn't about.

That was awesome. McCullum took one like that from Dravid once.
I think this is better than the McCullum one - which he sorta took by getting his body in the way of it and it went straight into his midsection before he caught it. This was straight into the hand.

****ing great catch from Latham. Raval continuing to deserve his spot too. Hopefully KW will score some runs and we can actually maybe pull this off.

It'd b a shame if we had two rain affected games that NZ were marginally leading before it was taken out of the players hands.

don't think we're at all ahead in this match, to be honest. SA have runs on the board, it's already turning, and whatever the case our batting line up can collapse from anywhere.

Nice work today from NZ, and good on the SA lower half to turn a potential rout into a solid score

NZ are so top three heavy atm though with no ross. only watling and the recent form of nicholls provides much confidence lower down

Not sure what Simon Doull is moaning about, this is a good partnership.

Also, who was the last international quick who took the new ball that was slower than de Grandhomme?
Brian Strang. 120km tops.

Really solid, gutsy effort by our openers last night. Great to see Tom in particular fight hard, no doubt the goodwill and feeling he would've had around his exemplary catching spilled over into his batting. As horrible a 2017 portion of the summer as he's had, a century would ensure he moves forward with confidence (then again, our next Test is Nov-Dec and there's 5 in the next 18 months, so really who cares?). And Jeet, really surprising me how solid he's been. Still needs to get out of the awful habit of the 50-60 brain fade but it's a nice enough problem to have.

Hadn't seen a lot of people talking up Tom Latham being a Time Lord before now. If I'd known he could see the future and react accordingly I'd have defended him getting out for 40 more often.

that video's already been removed Howe. It was probably removed before you made this post. The Time Lords are aware.

Looks like rain will ruin this test. Was shaping up well ( to be s good test, not a nz win) so its a real shame.

For all the negativity in this thread, I think its been a very good home season. My biggest disappointment was actually losing the odi series to sa. I thought we were going to win. The tests we have done ok. As much as I expected really.

8/10. You can argue about the quality of opposition all you like but we have failed to beat less motivated pakistani teams in NZ before. That was a pretty good series win. Something we failed to do when we had more settled test sides.

Raval the find of the test season.
