I knew Kohli wasn't having a great series with the bat, but averaging 9 in 5 innings ffs. 
And here I was pre-series thinking Smith and Kohli were very close as Test bats and that it might be Smith who would struggle against Ashwin and the screamer, while Kohli would boss the Aussie bowlers in his own conditions.

Sure, but not my point:
It might just be the case that SOK + Maxwell are the best fit for the conditions anyway, we'll see. But don't drop him for one of those two.

Has there been any somewhat definitive response as to why Smith hates Maxwell's bowling? There has to a be a reason because he just doesn't bowl him at all anymore

The line going around is that Smith didn't want to give the Indian batsmen any easy opportunities to up the tempo by giving them part-time bowling to face, hence why Maxwell didn't bowl at all until, like, tea.

Not using his all rounder to bowl has been a thing for Smith hasn't it? Didn't bowl Marsh that much, barely used Henriques at all and now refused to give the ball to Maxwell. Could well be some resentment at how he himself was handled early on tbh.

They wanted to keep things tight so they'd need to bat less time for the draw.
Marsh didn't need to bowl in the first two games because the main bowlers weren't getting pooped and there weren't too many partnerships that needed breaking.

Maybe the part-time hate is a result of how his batting brain functions. He can't ever picture himself throwing his wicket away playing a loose shot to a mediocre bowler, and infact probably relishes the moment a part timer is brought on to bowl as a chance to score heavily. So as a result he is super reluctant to bowl them. He doesn't function like other batsmen-captains who understand the lure of a part-timer.
