Im saying i would much rather had been in englands shoes at the end of that test.
And australia didnt deserve to win at all as they couldn't break a 69 ball tenth wicket partnership. With one of the wickets being just about the worst batsmen ive ever seen
and yet australia still played better cricket, which is what the post you were originally talking about said

anyway i'm not sure why you've decided to troll about a series that happened 8 years ago, but you do you

Not one Australian player left from 2009 unless I'm mistaken. Hell of a turnover of players this decade for us.
I'd be surprised if many teams have lots of players left from then, England only have Cook, Broad and Anderson left from that series.

Yeah 8 years is a decently long time, especially given that that team wasn't so young. Smith was 19 and just starting in Shield cricket at that stage (it was the next season, IIRC, where he put up some really impressive numbers and started to push his case for a Test spot. Odd how that's come full circle)

The turnover from our last tour of India is more interesting. Only 3 of that side in the first Test (Lyon, Warner, Starc) are still around, whilst half the Indian side is unchanged (Vijay, Pujara, Kohli, Jadeja, Ashwin, Sharma)

Regarding the 2009 Ashes, you people do realise that terrible cricket often makes great - entertaining - test matches/series? What I tend to prefer above all else is a close series and that was certainly the last close Ashes.

A bit, but none of the Tests were really that close from memory. The closest finish was the "draw" in the First Test wasn't it, the rest were all reasonably comfortable victories either way?

The series was close though. 1-1 going into the last test at The Oval, all three results on.

He didn't bring it up, think he was just having a bit of fun with that post. It was quite a memorable session tbf.

In other good news, Pujara is now ranked number 2 in the world and Jadeja is the greatest bowler playing at the moment.

Plus "Smith consolidated his place at the top of the rankings with scores of 178* and 21 in Ranchi. Smith has 941 rating points is now joint-fifth highest ever with Peter May. Only Don Bradman (961), Len Hutton (945), Jack Hobbs and Ricky Ponting (942) have ever got more."

Pujara is one of my favourite batsman right now. Old school test cricketer. Not as elegant as Kohli maybe but impossible to dislodge.

Personnel-wise this is pretty similar to the side that toured Australia a few years back, isn't it? Although, as Smith is showing, leadership has a massive influence on a team that isn't easily quantified.
Indeed, but most of them give off vibes of having improved a lot from that time, so I will not expect them to roll over that easily. And as you said, there is leadership.

True, but a lot of them have toured overseas. So it's not a blank slate when it comes to assessing how they'd go when they next travel.

You are right, but honestly I see a lot of parallels in this team and Ganguly's 03-04 team, I feel that most of these guys are finally hitting their peaks so they will have good chance overseas. Also Kohli might be a total idiot but I have a lot of faith in his cricketing abilities(both as a Batsman and a Captain), this series notwithstanding. In the end, we just have to wait and see, I just don't want to declare them a failure before actually seeing them in action abroad.
