Nah this is a much worse performance than either of those two. At least in those cases you could say we were well beaten by world class players like Steyn and Ashwin. Losing 12 wickets to JP and Maharaj on this surface is pathetic. Have to go back to the 2013 tour of SA to find such a meek performance.
I agree, and also that, while SA are much better on paper, they haven't played that well and NZ just handed them advantage again and again.

It's certainly the worst performance at home that I can remember for a long time.

Latham really does need to sit out the next test, but Neesham has become just as big a worry. His second innings dismissal was that of a batsman lacking any confidence in his game.
Tremendously disappointing series so far from Neesham. I was boosting him as someone in good form who demanded selection and, in an uncertain middle order, was set to claim that number 6 spot for himself. He's done the opposite. He's been the Guptill specialist slip fielder of the series.

Does he get the next game? It's questionable and maybe he works to balance the selection of two seamers and two spinners. However, he could also have no complaints if he missed out.

Also, we don't need to search for another spinner. Santner is already the second best in the country and also has the highest ceiling.
Test spinner? He'd be well down the list, for me. And a high ceiling? I'm not sure I see it. He's Dan Vettori, circa end of career. Wickets potentially on absolute raging burners or against mud sides, but good Test nations/batsmen have no worries at all.

His team mates can't have learnt much facing him in the nets. Losing 8 to Maharaj and 4 to Duminy, on a wicket doing nothing startling, is ****ing abysmal.

It's my opinion that Santner's bowling will be perennially underrated, and his batting perennially overrated.

His action looks lazy but he actually gets a fair degree of rip, significant bounce, and drift occasionally. He's also pretty accurate for a young bowler. I think Dan Vettori end of career is still a ceiling well above anyone else in the country, tbh. You may call that faint praise but I definitely think we could've used a spinner of that mold on a number of occasions since his retirement.

Love to talk about how South Africa and New Zealand are on an equal level and that there's not much between them. Thanks' Guys!

ignoring the post above this one, i do think we should give SA a shout out for winning without their two best players while having some struggling blokes and a national discussion about selection policies.

i see a lot of names new to me in their wider squad as well. any chance we'll see someone new in hamilton?

Only likely change would be Piedt in for one of the seamers.

de Bruyn more of a boundary hitting number 3/4 so would be unfair to ask him to open and JP golden-arm 4-for puts end to his position being talked about for now especially with the talk of Hamilton turning.

Olivier can swing the ball both ways or run in and hit the deck. His speeds are always confusing because on some days he can look genuinely fast and on others not so much. Possibly his snatchy action. Put the numbers up domestically and SA 'A' and deservedly is in the squad possibly as a more LT option. Jumped the likes of Viljoen, de Lange, Paterson, B.Hendricks. Going into the future (3-5 years time) you probably looking at him, Daryn Dupavillon, Lungi Ngidi , Migael Pretorius & Gerald Coetzee as the competition for strike-bowlers with Rabada.

Really is time for someone to smuggle a ship laden with Bulli soil across the Tasman. Get the Maharaj-grade talent excited about performing a Mongolian reversal on CdG and Munro. The stowage of this ship certainly promises us all some surprising developments, like this one -

Congrats to you Hendrix regarding Raval, btw. My thinking seems to have led me a bit too close to a MAGA hat, a bit too close to saying 'three of the M&Ms in that bowl will definitely kill you', when it comes to Jeet Raval.

The question is, has Latham been found out on a technical level or is this just a rough patch? It's funny how fate can be sometimes because when NZ were really in a hot spell a few years back they were looking for someone to partner him and kept chopping and changing as a result. Now they appear to have found someone decent in Ravel and now Latham is looking like a duck. That's the game I guess. Williamson, Watling and Taylor means NZ's middle order will always be decent but with Brandon retiring it's taken that fear factor out of the top order imo and they can often get bogged down. Nicholls scored a very good ton but he's still new on the scene so it remains to be seen whether he can be consistent enough at this level. The real concern moving forward must be how they've allowed a rookie spinner to dominate them like that. Especially when their last three opponants were sub-continant teams!!!..so really they should have had great preperation where spin is concerned.

Both Latham and Cook look terrible and we've signed them both, to play at separate times as our overseas!! Just what have we bought here? Two plonkers by the look of things. Wished we'd signed Raval and Elgar instead.

Could be worse. Cook could have gone Kolpak and signed a multi-year deal.

If I was South African I think I would have liked that!

We'll have Keaton Jennings and S. Cook opening, all South African haha, then we lose the two of them for the D'Oliveira Trophy and in steps Latham and **** knows to replace them? What a dog's dinner if they continue with this sort of form.

They'll be fine, pretty much any overseas player does well in the CC. Very professional set up but easy runs and wickets.
