IPL Auction

****, was Tahir left out because he's Pakistani? ****ing hate politics.
thing is IPL selections are so haphazard it's nothing that would even come close to being proven.

But yeah there's definitely been a strong political lean on who gets selected in the IPL and it's ****ing annoying. If we're going to have Modi's capitalist dream at least give us the libertarian values that come along with it.

The Pakistani snub has been going on well before Modi, but I doubt BJP coming to power is helping. The more I think about it, the more certain I am about the reason for Tahir's exclusion. Azhar Mahmood did make an appearance in 2015 iirc so maybe I'm wrong.

Wasn't Modi the original guy in charge? Yeah been going on since 2008. Which is insane considering how much revenue the like of Afridi would have brought in (just in terms of marketing).

Haha you're getting the Modis mixed up. Daemon's talking about the PM.

It sucks though. Can't really think of any other reason why they wouldn't pick him. So ******.

The fact that he sucked and was really no better than most of the domestic spinners isn't a reason?

IPL teams (except Delhi who are for lack of a better word, stupid) tend to place a lot of emphasis on how the given player played in the previous IPL, it makes sense too because not all players give their 100% in a league tournament.

Steyn kept getting an IPL gig year after year. I don't think he gives a rat's ass about it.

Don't think Gayle is guaranteed his spot the way he's been playing over recent months. He's been woeful in the PSL and not a whole lot better in the Bangladesh equivalent.

Steyn is an ATG test bowler, his limited overs cricket record is average, you can't infer he doesn't care about IPL just because of his poor record. And he is a pacer, how many pacers who can do as well as Steyn do we have lying around in the domestics? Compare that with the spinners.

I don't remember any such statement but it could be, regardless he has the advantage of being a pacer and unlike Tahir, Indian batsmen and the general public actually rates him. My point is just that all the noise and shock on Tahir not being bought is not fully justified, he has not been good in the IPL earlier while being good for his country and there is no reason to believe it will be different this time, and as a spinner he isn't a rare commodity in India. It's not as if teams have missed out on ABDV or Kohli.

Whatever it takes!!!
Steyn won matches in India against India. Tahir did not. On what planet are these two guys even comparable when its obvious that name and reputation and impression is what sells players in the IPL auction?

Regardless, I do think it is stupid that Tahir had no bidders. He has done ok to well whenever he has played in the IPL and I still remember DD squeezing sides out of run chases with the double leg spin attack of Mishra and Tahir, both bowling post powerplay.

Can someone explain to me, who actually gets the money? So Stokes went for 1.8 or whatever, does he get that money or someone else? Very glad to see Starc isn't playing this IPL, well done my boy.

Would imagine tournament organisers and multiple agents get a portion of it.

They way he was going on about how this has changed his life, I assume he gets most of it

Pretty sure that CA gets a cut of any Australians' salary as a "fee" for releasing them to play whilst an agent/manager/etc would also be entitled to a %
Yep. Don't forget 30% tax in India (20% for the players who went for less than 1 Cr).

I'm not sure if this is true. I mean obviously the agent/manager gets a fee, but the CA part I'm not sure about.

When they play in the t20 league thing that features teams from around the world, then yeah it's true that the host club gets a big fee.
