Reason I prefer Behardien over Duminy at the moment is he is not wasting deliveries. Duminy tends to score 8 of 15 or 20 balls getting in and then tries to launch. When Miller comes back Duminy is at 6 again, Behardien scores run a ball from the get go and either gets out or scores 25+ at greater than a run a ball. Neither of their bowling is adequate right now.JP looking good at number 4 in tests but the only way he should keep his spot is if he bowls his offies well because right now he only sneaks in at 5 for me. JP is too much of a proper batsman. ODI cricket needs energy and/or power at 5/6
No point even talking about Farhaan. Nice guy but you just feel you can get someone else in for him eventually but at 34 he will be playing 2nd fiddle to Miller in any case.
Still not sold. Seem him struggle when up against quality bowlers (spin/seam) because his technique and defence isn't sound enough. He has also eaten up balls in innings at international level as well. JP/Farhaan aren't bad players but right now they have to be questioned.Just because I don`t want to clog the NZ/SA thread

We have Morris/Pretorious/Parnell/Phelukwayo fighting for 2 spots as all rounders. For me it should be Morris/Phelukwayo at 7/8. Is there an opportunity to play Pretorius at 6 can`t be worse than Duminy/Behardien?
Biggest issue with the Behardien/Duminy problem is that we don`t really have anybody at 5/6 finishers in domestic at the moment (as you say Smith/Mulder maybe?)... lots of possible 1-4 players but few finishers.Still not sold. Just a pity it's too early for guys like Jason Smith and Wiaan Mulder but in a years time who knows. Guys who can bat 5/6 and bowl seam. Whether Pretorius can do that is another story. I will be honest with you, I don't think his technique is good enough to achieve it over a decent period of time but his Sunfoil Series success surprised me. We don't know how good those Sunfoil Series batting performances really were though.
Rossouw and Abbott would solve so much !Biggest issue with the Behardien/Duminy problem is that we don`t really have anybody at 5/6 finishers in domestic at the moment (as you say Smith/Mulder maybe?)... lots of possible 1-4 players but few finishers.
What about the 3rd seamer? If you have an attack of Tahir/Rabada/Morris/Phelukwayo + who? Would you consider Philander for an immediate solution?
This right here was the problem with losing Abbott and Rillee, both would probably be in the team ? Or would quota keep them out?
About 7 or 8 - unfortunately 6 would be to high but there is genuine belief about his batting. It's a pity these players don't get to play more domestic cricket to work on their games.Where does Morris bat in domestic cricket? Could he be an option at 6? If he is then we could conceivably have Morris, Phehlukwayo and Pretorius at 6,7 and 8, followed by three bowlers - currently that would be Rabada and Tahir, and then I guess Paterson or Shamsi depending on conditions.
Although that could lead to quota problems, as having De Kock, Du Plessis, De Villiers and Miller in the batsmen means that we can only have one white bowler. So it may have to be Philander (or Parnell ) instead of Pretorius.
So far Wiese, Behardien , Abbott and Tahir unsold.Like this. This was the area Domingo felt we went wrong when had a couple of bad series. He wanted to make sure the Protea was number one and that meant planning/training as well as playing was ahead of these tournaments.

Faf wasn'the in the SA side at that point same with harris. Never abandoned the team as they weren't in it. Ab£ott and ros£ouw were contracted and in the squads. What about current captain Du Plessis then? He gave up on SA to go play county cricket for a while.
or De Villiers? Not playing Test cricket this year because he needs time away from the game, but happy to turn up at the IPL.
Just looking at who batted at 5 and 6 in the most recent round of the Momentum Cup, there don't seem to be too many alternatives.Do we have anybody that can replace Duminy/Behardien and bat at 6 to help guide the lower order batsmen? Do you think moving Faf or deVillers (since he seems reluctant to come in early) down to 6 may allow us to bring somebody like de Bruyn in at 3? or Possibly Elgar that can give a few overs of dart spin?
