***Official*** Sri Lanka in South Africa 2016/2017

How can South Africa when it comes to rugby produce world cup clutch teams, but when it comes to limited overs they produce talented chokers?

Another one for the collection, this time they choked v a depleted Sri Lanka side in their backyard. Warriors.

And gun Ngidi bowling 2 overs:mellow:

Good to see SL had a successful SA tour - we all know T20 is the only format that really matters.

Nice one, SL! Good effort to come back from 0-1 down to take the series.

Nice chase from SL, congrats.

Ngidi injury was probably crucial, but those dropped catches were laughable. The hope I had for Parnell is all gone, he is just not good enough for international level, still making the same mistakes. Great to see deVillers come back and immediately get some runs. Also some nice exposure for the younger players.

Nice to see SL winning. The Test series wasn't as exciting as it could have been but the LO stuff could be fun. Although SA being at full strength in the ODIs could widen the margin between the teams.

Ngidi has been impressive. So has Mangi with his hitting. Reeza Hendricks impressed me more than Kuhn or Smuts. He gets good value for low risk shots. That's always important.

Just finished watching recording of the match and well done SL on a cracking win to take the series. Commiserations to SA with a young team but I suppose you can only play the tram put up against you. Really pleased that we came back from behind to win. Great effort from Dickwella and Prasanna. Would have been much easier if our last over wasn't so poor with the ball but hey ho..
Our selectors have sold our two most promising youngsters in Mendis and De Silva down the river by playing them in this format..Don't ruin their test future..Odi's yes but not t20

Just a few comments on players :

Smuts : You got what you get with him. Limited overs cricket is what he is best at. Could have done more with chances but got good starts in 2/3 games.
Kuhn : Probably given reward for long service. Keep him sweet moving forward for longer version of the game potentially which has always been his best format.
Hendricks : Always good to watch when playing well but really bad when not playing well. Hardly scored much runs domestically in the last 2 years but has the ability.
Mosehle : Always struck a good ball but never brought much substance to his game. T20 format is probably perfect right now but looks to have improved since his move to Lions.
Phehlukwayo : Better than what he showed in the series. But coming back from surgery with minimal cricket was tough. Better in 3rd game. Can become a clutch player.
Ngidi : 6ft5 and quick and accurate enough at 20. Ideally he goes back to Titans and plays 4-day cricket and gets stronger but won't be happening.
Paterson : Solid but no spark for the next level.

Parnell : Disappointing again. Started off poorly in the first two games and always has a disappointing over somewhere and he was meant to be leading the seam-bowling attack.

Why wont he be getting 4-day cricket? are you referring to him being drafted into SA LO team? or does he not make the FC team? just a little confused thought he would be a shoe in.

Just got into the Titans 4-day team. Probably played 3 games I reckon. Ideally he should have been playing in the last two rounds of Sunfoil Series but with the New Zealand limited overs tour right after the Sri Lanka one he won't be I reckon.

I know match fixing is a sensitive subject... but geez those three dropped catches in a row? The odds on that must be astronomical.

I think that guarantees that it was not it was not match fixing.... anybody putting a bet on 3 dropped catches in a row would already be frog marching towards jail :)

Parnell was very disappointing yesterday as Tahir practically won the game and when he bowled out, three quicks just needed to bowl moderately ok but he and Paterson really failed. Paterson like Smuts doesn’t look international class and I doubt he will play much more, so it’s not really a concern but Parnell is an experienced bowler and says a lot that after only 6 overs in international cricket, people were thinking Ngidi in this attack was the go to man. Phehlukwayo is going to be a match winner but at this stage you really have no idea what he is going to do. Bowled overs in this series where he was leaking boundaries every other ball and then the next over, everything he bowls the batsman can’t get him off the square.

Do we know how serious the injury is? After watching Parnell and Phehlukwayo here, South Africa need Ngidi for the ODIs.

Hendricks isn't a 20/20 opener but the selectors can't get him into the ODI or test squads. He looks better suited for those formats but hasn't got any real runs in recent years to warrant selection. South Africa would have been better off having AB open yesterday and getting de Bruyn to bat at 3 again. Or selected Kruger, a slogger in the Loots Bosman mold but he had a good domestic 20/20 and if he and Smuts were somehow still there after 6 overs, South Africa would be well set.

Don`t think it`s a serious injury, fell hard on his hip then continued fielding for awhile then went off. Think it may have just been precautionary. I`m not to worried about Phelukwayo as he has only just come back from an injury lay off... Parnell needs to go now in all formats. I know he has done well domestically but he obviously just does not have the mental edge internationally, he sprays it often and is taken off his length to easily by quality batsmen. I would expect for Pretorius/Morris to get a game in front of Ngidi anyway. Unless they can play Ngidi and drop Parnell instead :)
