South Africa team selection

Lorgat very condescending to New Zealand saying England is the type of series that de Villiers would be available for. South Africa's recent record in New Zealand is very good but they are no mugs, and in the right conditions South Africa’s batsman will struggle. Saw that at Centurion and first innings at Kingsmead last year.
I agree with that. Thank goodness it is a dumbass who has been unbelievably lucky to worm his way into cricket positions who said it and not Russell and the players who will be picked and no doubt will respect New Zealand's team.

The T20 side is half Protea international and, half experimental.
I've only got minor issues with the squad. A few of these players will probably be found out but I've always been for trying players out at T20 international level. I would retire majority of our main players from T20 if I could.

Whatever it takes!!!
Understandable but unfortunate. They have quotas to fulfill and they dont want to disturb a side that seems settled at the moment. I dont read it as disrespect towards NZ, more like it is tough to figure AB into this current Test side without messing up either the quota %s or some of the players' confidence. Him being there will mean having to make some tough decisions which the current regime probably does not want to. I just feel this is more of a pragmatic move than any kind of disrespect towards the opposition or that sort.

Of all the top 8 teams, NZ is the only one he averages under 40 against.

Guess he's afraid

Ridiculous you saffa's worrying about your batting line up when amla faf and his he continues his form then cook can all play for at least 3 more years as none of them are exactly t20 specailists (like brendan mccullam, gayle ect,) elgar is solid and still in his prime and then youve gone qdk who should average 50+ for then next 10 years. This is without including any young guns you undoubtably have coming through. Only question mark is abdv who has more or less just committed himself until 2019, just he might have to sit out the odd test in a series

We are not worrying about our batting line-up as you are implying... it would be great to have deVillers available he is a high quality player. We are however worrying about effect of money, quotas and problems in SA politics and its effect on SA cricket players and teams.

If Bavuma has another poor series against NZ, who is next (realistically) in line* if he gets dropped?

* I mean, other than AB De Villiers.

AB is skipping England tests as well.

Says he will play 4-day domestic cricket next season to prove fitness for India/Australia.

So if AB makes a come back v India on boxing day it will have been 23 months since he played test cricket.

It just beggars belief that he would miss the England tests. Surely he can miss some ODI series before that. But if he feels his body cant take it, how can we argue? At least he is making himself available from their home season onwards. Lets hope for the best. Maybe there will have been some rethink on the quotas as well by then?

Holy ****!

I think that's the end of AB's Test career to be honest.
I reckon so.

If New Zealand and England go well results wise we won't see him in the whites again or if we do he is retiring after the Australia series next summer and will have a swansong.

Yeah.

I don't really blame him to be honest, he's done a lot for SA cricket and if he wants to go grow his pension pot playing T20 around the world, good for him.

No respect for anyone that gives up on proteas like this...I wouldn't be picking him for any side given this attitude.

He has lost all respect I had for him.
