Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Should've picked a squad of 18 with 3 keepers.

That way, we would get:

First test - Wade who would drop everything

Second test - Handscomb who would prove to be worse than Wade

Third test - random newb

Fourth test - Nevill who would only be brought in to spare random newb the scarring of another thrashing

Indian guy at work is predicting a batting pitch first followed by 3 turners. So we will struggle to take wickets on the batting track and then go for more bowling/less batting the next test and get really dicked. The selections will be as entertaining as the batting.
The Indian guy you know is a moron tbh. The last test will be played in the mountains at Dharmshala where the weather currently, at 10:36 AM is 2 degrees Celcius. Its expected to top out at 18 degrees Celcius when the game begins on March 25. Not exactly temperatures that let you prepare turners. Might even assist the fast bowers but will probably be a dead pitch.

Compton

International Debutant
I feel like Maxwell should definitely play, but I can't fit him in the side without dropping to 2 seamers, or having Maxwell play as one of two specialist spinners.

Neither of those are going to happen, so I'll go for an inexplicable MMarsh selection at 6.

Justo

U19 Debutant
Just go with Maxwell, O'Keefe, Starc, Hazlewood and Lyon. M Marsh has 2 wickets from 5 games in Asia. Maxwell has 7 wickets from 3 games.

Not a big sample but M Marsh's bowling is overrated in these conditions IMO.

Think they've said that they will look at calling up a pace bowler after the first two tests - not the worst call, gives a bit of red ball cricket to select from too.

Cartwright's selection smells a bit of Quiney getting picked to protect Hughes from the Saffers.

Seems like they are looking at reasons to include Pat Cummins. I have to say though that Cummins could be doing more, his bowling has been good, but not outstanding. Who do you think Cartwright was protecting?

Mitch Marsh - if he had've failed for the rest of the summer, it would have caused even more outcry to continue selecting him.

If that is the case, it is a horrible, negative decision selecting someone younger, more inexperienced for his first opportunity with the Aussie setup, to protect Marsh. I would have rather we played Maddinson at the SCG instead of blooding another Test debutant or just selected Bird.
