Totally agree with this. I don't know how much truth there was to the rumour that NZC were bullied by the BCCI after that 2002 series, and told they wouldn't return until they got better wickets nest time around. If i'm not mistaken it took them 7 years to return in 2008/09.All NZ pitches should be like the ones we got in 2002. At least SA is doing it right by explicitly asking for anti Herath pitches.
Find it pretty hard to believe the BCCI would try to bully another cricket board, let alone succeed at it.Totally agree with this. I'd like to thinki that was a load of cobblers since all sides should be permitted to prepare wickets to best suit their own team.
No, we know Bangers would handle those seaming bouncing conditions with a lot more difficultly than say India or Pakistan batsmen, even though all would struggle a little. Bangers look terrible when there's bounce, pace and seam, much worse that other SC sides, nothing I've seen of them in the last couple of years changes that. SL tbf, have been pretty awful travelling themselves of late, but only in the last 18 months or so, but I would probably put their batsmen in the same category as Bangers.I mean literally any team playing away from home is then a minnow, if that's your description of it.
The big difference between our bowling attack in 2002 versus our bowling attack now is that we had seamers who could utilise those conditions - Big Jake on his day was amazing on seaming wickets due to the height, bounce and metronomic accuracy.Totally agree with this. Sure, but going for 4 an over you wonder if NZ aren't adapting 10 years on. For a home side that's a bit galling. But okay, let's wait till NZ have batted.I feel very confused by people's attitudes here. Every single Test in the last 10 years at the Basin has been on a pitch like this.

Give them a flat road and bowlers like Southee and Boult, who for years have struggled more than most fast bowlers in the world when there's no swing and seam & Bangers are good enough to post 500+ scores.
They have the worst seam bowling attack in world cricket and a batting line up that has no real consistency, I put them in the same bracket as Bangladesh and the Windies.Would you label SL as minnows?
Yup and it's worth questioning when you consider in NZ's last 11 tests here going back to 2008, we've have managed just 2 wins against SL & the Windies, lost 4 against England, Pakistan & Australia twice (2010-16) along with 5 drawsI feel very confused by people's attitudes here. Every single Test in the last 10 years at the Basin has been on a pitch like this.
Living on an island where rain is only 12 hours away maybe causes that to bump a little bit higher.Edit: That's a very high ratio of draws too considering the last 7-8 years of test cricket & the high proportion of results that are achieved.
No, considering they just smashed Australia 3-0 in their own backyard. Let's not forget, Bangers managed 1 Test win against England, and wasn't the series a 1-1 draw? Huge difference there. Also, as bad as SL have played outside of the SC of late, I think they have a bit of credibility up their sleeves to be labeled a minnow quite yet.Would you label SL as minnows?
Yea see I don't see how that's relevant to the current quality of a team. No, considering they just smashed Australia 3-0 in their own backyard. They should really have won the test series 2-0 though, they had England on the ropes and choked at the last second to lose that match. No, considering they just smashed Australia 3-0 in their own backyard. Choking comes with territory of being a minnow sorry, even losing the odd game that you're in a strong position in.They should really have won the test series 2-0 though, they had England on the ropes and choked at the last second to lose that match.
It's one of the slightly irrational things I suppose. Considering they've produced competitive Test sides for close to 2 decades now, I'm a little reluctant to quickly label them minnows on the back of some poor showings while they're going through a rebuilding phase.Yea see I don't see how that's relevant to the current quality of a team.
