But Abdv is an overrated test bat.Yeah that's very possible. But it's hardly guaranteed.
And even then, as good as he is, 25+ is tough. ABdV only has 21.

Tom Latham?? Needs to stop throwing away 50s though 5/11 is not a great conversion rate (plus a lot of 30s/40s)One other guy I'll throw up is Kraigg Brathwaite. Only on 5 but only just turned 24, doesn't play T20 and probably shouldn't be playing ODI's (so won't suffer as much burnout or become a T20 specialist), and opens the batting so he could have a good shot especially if he starts to really kick on from his exploits in Dubai. Wouldn't bet on it though, especially given how much of a ****up is the WICB.
Nothing compared to de Kock. But Abdv is an overrated test bat.
Not gonna disagreeBut Abdv is an overrated test bat.

quotas will work against him IMOCan Rabada get to 400 Test wickets?
Wait, surely they'll want to play him every Test match possible simply because he's a quality bowler? This argument doesn't make much sense to me, if anything quotas would help him.quotas will work against him IMO
they'll be loathe to rest him, wanting him to play every match possible and effectively wear him out over the long-term
He meant he will have to play every format which would mean a burnout. Steyn played for so long in test cricket because he rarely played LOIs except in big tournaments. It's hard being a fast bowler nowadays if you play all the formatsWait, surely they'll want to play him every Test match possible simply because he's a quality bowler? Ah okay. Hmm, still not hugely convinced though. He meant he will have to play every format which would mean a burnout. Steyn played for so long in test cricket because he rarely played LOIs except in big tournaments. It's hard being a fast bowler nowadays if you play all the formats
Even if South Africa bothered to play test cricket he'd struggle to get 20.Didn't Gilchrist debut at the age of 28 or some such? QDK will get around 20 imo.
South Africa hardly play to wear him out. If he was playing the amount of cricket England play you'd have a point.quotas will work against him IMO

What do you think of fab four? But Abdv is an overrated test bat.
Haha so much this.Literally wait for them to play more than 5 Tests before talking about them, come on.
It's a theory. If you look at a lot of the best bowlers in the world they tend to get rested quite often. If, theoretically, SA need him to play as much as possible to fill qutoas they may be less likely to rest him.Wait, surely they'll want to play him every Test match possible simply because he's a quality bowler? Chappell had that run of outs in the latter third of his career with those ducks, but think besides that he was still going reasonably well.He was before my time. I'm probably mixing him up with someone else. Was under the impression his batting rapidly declined towards the end.
Replace Chappell with Gilchrist and you get my point.
Bit of difference between age though from Prior to QDK.Should also be pointed out that it's worth waiting a few years to see if he keeps it up before nailing him on for virtual ATG keeper-batsman status (which is what 15-20 hundreds would give him, let's not lie). Remember when Matt Prior was going to be the next Gilchrist?
Ponting is definitely the ultimate example imo. Around 2006-07 it looked like he would get 50 tons easily, even assuming he'd decline. No one really thought the decline would be that bad and drawn out.I think Warner will end in the mid 20s somewhere. He's a gun but he's a gun that relies entirely on his eye. Just like Ponting/Viv/G Chappell he'll fall off a cliff at test level and simply stop making runs at one point.
He always looked like he was going to come back and hit a big run of form but never really averaged more than low 40s for any of the years after 06/07. It was seriously frustrating watching his average free fall from high 50s to under 52 when he retired.Ponting is definitely the ultimate example imo.
