On a pitch like this he is going too slowly for mine. Obviously if he ends today with a couple of hundred runs to his name he'll be vindicated, but he needs to be playing more positively.
The team is going at 4 an over, his SR is totally irrelevant.

Healy trying to provoke Waqar into a nationalistic response is actually quite entertaining.

Adelaide has been a road since Victor Trumper was a lad.

Sydney and Melbourne break up.

Brisbane has always had a bit in it for the bowlers on day one and then flattened out over the course of the test.

The WACA tends to develop large cracks by day 5.

Hobart has always held together well due to the climate.

If anything, Melbourne has gotten worse since they introduced drop in pitches. None of the other venues have changed character all that much in the last 30 years (apart from a period in the mid 00s where the WACA lost its bounce).
You're talking about the wickets that used to be the case.

Every Australian wicket except Hobart has become the same pitch, good trustworthy bounce, not extremely pacey, not much seam, very little spin except for the SCG on Day 4 and 5, although that depends on what the groundskeeper decides to do.

And you are implying that it's insignificant? lol

Thats like a 15-20% increase... which is almost like an extra day's of runs added to a 5 day match.. i.e. more or less 6 days of run-scoring in 5 days.. and in some other countries it's probably even worse.

Tests really need to be 400 overs and played over 4 days with the 5th being a reserve day. This would definitely help even up the contest between bat & bowl as they will have to prepare more sporting wickets to ensure results, which will take roads more or less out of the game.
Just to put it all into perspective for you in the 90's matches averaged 357 overs per match with 947 runs.
Over the last ten years they have averaged 333 overs per match with 1080 runs.

So the difference from the 90's matches are 24 overs shorter and 133 runs more per match. Good or bad I dont know better or worse not my call.

in the 90's Australia won 34 lost 8 and drew 14 at home
in the last ten years won 35 lost 10 and drew 9 at home

The only thing about Brisbane and Adelaide that's changed is the introduction of day/night tests. Brisbane effectively list the first session so was a road from the start and Adelaide left a decent amount of grass on the pitch so was bowler-friendly when it got dark.

Australia specifically builds roads that don't break up because they want five day test matches with lots of runs scored, and they back their team to be able to beat almost any of the visitors through being slightly better in flat conditions than they are, usually due to strong, tall bowlers.
Interesting considering we're constantly talking about getting the WACA back to its former glory days.

I mean I think Mitchell Johnson would like to have a word with anyone who thinks that the pitches were "suited" to our bowlers.

The comms earlier were talking about a rumor that Renshaw might not go to India. Was it just them talking or is there something to it? He's 20 and doing a job. Would be nuts to not take him.
