***Official*** Sri Lanka in South Africa 2016/2017

Sri Lanka should feel bad about today's batting performance. Should have finished the day in a better position.

Been a decent pitch. Could have asked for more deterioration but then the movement on the first 3 days and the quicker run scoring wouldn't have been attainable.

It's still not lightening fast and some attrition is required so lots of soft looking dismissals do tend to happen in PE.

Been impressed with some of Sri Lanka's young guns. Mendis and de Silva look like they have that self-assured arrogance to go with their batting ability.

For South Africa, if they rap things up tomorrow , they probably didn't get 3rd/4th gear but there certainly are no Sri Lankans just willing to lie down here bar Kusal Perera unlike previous Sri Lankan touring teams.

@seamup - KP should never have been at three as he doesn't have the temperament.he is a #7 but tbh tharanga should have been played in that spot IMO as he is in form..

Big 5 tbh....

Smith
De Villiers
Root
Kohli
Williamson

In roughly that order atm imo.
It's not just the best bats. Otherwise you'd have Warner and Amla and Younis there too.
It's 4 best bats of a certain age group from 3 years ago.

Isn't it just the young kids thought to be "the next greats" after the retirements of Kallis, Ponting, Tendulkar, Sangakkara, etc?

Yeah, Kohli, Smith, Root and de Kock.

Can Lanka top Bangladesh and Pakistan for absolute crapness today? What can they do be #1 joke team?

Probably would have to lose all their last 5 wickets in 5 overs. They've actually done ok in this chase.

Well, the scary thing for Pakistan is that the performances are coming now when you can't even claim they're rebuilding.

A big part of Sri Lanka being poor is that over the last 6 years, they've lost 3 ATG cricketers and 3 other top talent guys that they've had to rebuild, at the same time guys they would have expected more from (Matthews, Chandimal, Mendis, etc) haven't really performed well yet.
Bangladesh can shock teams on their day, like Zimbabwe of the flower era, but they're just not diligent enough
Pakistan are probably losing Misbah + Younis and probably Shah in the next few years, and they don't seem to be generating the fast bowling talent they used to produce.

Sri Lanka still have Herath, but if he comes out of the side, good luck to them - considering the bowlers they're playing are all averaging 40+.

Pakistan could turn the corner if the luck turns around for Amir, they've got some talented youth batsman, Shah isn't bad when the tactics are right and surely one of Riaz, Khan will come right to assist Amir.

Yeah, they've already exceeded my expectations even if they lose all their remaining wickets without adding a run. I didn't think they'd survive 2 sessions yesterday.

Riaz bowls like one good spell a year, and even then he often doesn't have much to show for it (see first Test in Brisbane).

Yea can't remember the last time that a Saffer fielded so poorly, it's something that you never expect. The pitch has eased out a lot and I think in general it's helped Srl that SA have not really looked that intense both with bat and on the field and they're still largely dominating.
