Trent Woodhill who has spent plenty of time in India, usually on flat tracks involved with the IPL to be fair, maintains that Zampa is the best "subcontinental" Australian spinner. If they do want to have a flirt with him, then I just hope they still take Lyon over.

If Lyon doesn't play Sydney or has a bad one I could see the selectors not taking him to India and taking someone like Holland.

My thoughts are that we will still probably see the following:

6. Cartwright
7. Wicketkeeper
8. O'Keefe
9. Starc
10. Hazelwood
11. Lyon

or

6. Maxwell
7. Wicketkeeper
8. Starc
9. O'Keefe
10. Hazelwood
11. Bird/Pace bowler

Think you have to have options spinning the ball both ways, and with Smith available to help out spinning the ball away then the second option should be spinning it in. I guess this is offset by the fact that India don't have a heap of left handers, and they aren't the biggest threats to the team.

I know he's a pensioner, but I could accept bringing Hartley in for the next year or two and hope Whiteman or some other young guy comes good. Wouldn't let us down. Or of course just get Nev back. Wade surely can't go to India and therefore shouldn't play Sydney.

Good to have the option of spinning it both ways. Not sure we can rely on Smith to bowl himself. Seems reluctant to bowl himself. Which is fair enough if he just wants to concentrate on his batting. We are sure to need it.

You have both covered by picking a leggie such as Fawad Ahmed or perhaps one of the youngsters...say Swepson.. a smokie yes but a good prospect.

Nah, no inside information. Pete put his hand up to keep because it was his best chance of playing for Victoria when Wade was being picked as the Australian keeper the first time around - he'd stopped keeping for about three or four years before that. ].
This continues to annoy the **** out of me. It was so obvious that this is why Pete took the gloves. It ensured he had a place in the team, which worked out for both parties. it was a total short term relationship. And it still comes up...

Has reportedly been a fair bit of turn in Sydney this year though.
No reportedly about it. They're kidding themselves if they don't go with the SOK/Sommerville partnership...

I reckon it'll just be Cartwright in for Maddinson, same bowling attack.
SoK wouldn't surprise me tbh
SOK/Holland will be in the squad for sure. I think deep down they will want to try 2 spinners/plus all-rounder in sydney but in reality it might be too hard to make it work (see: the discussion on resting starc...)

lehmann will probably pick maxwell in the squad and make him 12th man because he isn't making enough runs. gotta keep throwing him under the bus you know

Steve Smith can barely captain one spinner well, you guys want to give him 2?

Just load up on fast bowlers who can reverse swing it and be prepared for a few to break over the course of the series IMO. Mediocre spin captained by Steve Smith is going to get you nowhere.

For some reason I have more faith in him captaining SOK than Lyon.

SOCalf will break down again anyway, sadly. Was moving with my mobility in the field the other night.

I would like to see Agar or Fawad Ahmed.go. A big smokie is new Aussie Johan Botha.
Fawad has lost his vic contract, Agar's nowhere near the mark and Botha doesn't even play First-class cricket.

Not disputing that you'd like to see any of these, but absolutely not going to happen.

Completely forgot that Shaun Marsh existed. Surely he slots back in for Maddinson in Sydney unless they desperately want a seaming all-rounder.

Not sure how you can justify Nic Maddinson playing Test cricket for Australia ahead of Shaun Marsh when both are fit and available, regardless of batting position
