***Official*** Pakistan in Australia 2016/17

BARNES OUT
Exactly. Love hearing commentators talk like this. If their captain walked into Healy and Warne and said he was declaring to leave a side >2 days to score 450 they'd want him sacked.

Seriously, why would he do it? Could understand in a dead rubber if they can't lose a series, but if two blokes get going, Pakistan wins, Australia is 1-0 down having dominated most of the match and Smith would (rightly) lose his job.
There's absolutely no way he would lose his job if that happened.

It's supposed to chuck it down tomorrow and 490 should be enough but why????????

Just bat normally and wake up tomorrow

It's not as if they have something better to do

If Australia had enforced the follow-on, they would have probably finished the match off by now! By putting Pakistan in, they basically allow Pakistan to grab onto something and prolong the match. Not impressed with Smith's captaincy.

From what I understand, the follow on was never actually even seriously considered by Smith et al because of how sapping the conditions are, and they don't expect to lose that much time to rain.

I don't think Australia would even consider enforcing the follow on when they don't have an all-rounder in the side.

If we were paying in Hobart the follow on would have been an alright decision. But it was very hot yesterday and Starc is already showing signs of fatigue. Bit silly to enforce the follow on in these conditions, especially with no all rounder.

Conditions should be better for bowling today.

Declarations are like setbacks in life. They're not good, or bad, until acted on. They can eventually be looked back on as positive or negative. This idea that a declaration has to be judged in the 10-minute window it's made is ludicrous.

Not so sure about that statement tbh. While hindsight matters, I think there are some declarations in which it's valid to comment at the time.

You know, its actually not looking that bad this morning.

Literally zero chance of play, it's over. Don't even bother tuning in

I thought Warner has played the total team mans game here, in the first innings he curbed his aggression and ground down the bowlers giving the team a good platform to work from. In the second innings it made no difference if he made 10 or a 100 as the only thing needed was quick runs and he went out to set up the innings with that in mind and not his personal average. Played for the team.
Agree...despite his drop in form he is still a walk up start to any baggy green side. Passionate and a great team man.

I think the fact that all Test series are played in such a short space of time (e.g. this three Test series is over by the 8th January) plays on the follow on and declaration call as well.

Yeah given the tail wag and the conditions on the Saturday I hardly blame Smith wanting a bat again. Would've batted after tea for at least 30 minutes though.

It would be over though!! What better way to cope with fatigue/heat than to put your feet up for two days. Not enforcing it has prolonged the game.
