I missed the dismissal, but is it really silly trying to push it along when you're leading by 430 with 8 pegs in the tent and the prospect of bowling to the opposition very shortly under lights?
it was a weird fancy chip shot when he could have just swung hard for the fences

What's the point of that?

Lead is already 400 with 50 overs scheduled in the day. It's simple for me, bat the 15 or so over before the dinner break, look to score at 5s, set Pakistan 475 to win & get the 2 hour hour session under lights.
What do you then do if Pakistan goes to stumps at 0/60 odd and they have to score 200 per day on an increasingly flat pitch? Percentages says they need more than 475 given the time left in the match.

I don't think declaring now is the right move. But by 6:30 Queensland time Australia will have around a 500+ lead. If Pakistan successfully chase 500 I'll eat my computer.

my favourite mcc law is the one that says your team automatically wins if you set a 450+ target

Watching the Pakistan batsman being dismissed yesterday and the clear feeling of deja vu of Pakstan with Glenn Mcgrath bowling and the results that come from taking back foot swipes at quick bowlers when playing in Australia. How is it possible that the very same obvious mistakes are being made more than a decade later???

It dates way beyond that. It's been the one place they haven't managed to adjust. The schedules have something to do with it as what they did in England this year - do a boot camp, arrive more than a month early, play 3 warm up games is not necessarily possible as the Australian series is almost always at the end of the cricket season with cricket being played right before whereas the England series was the start of the season and they had time before it.
