Seriously, why would he do it? Could understand in a dead rubber if they can't lose a series, but if two blokes get going, Pakistan wins, Australia is 1-0 down having dominated most of the match and Smith would (rightly) lose his job.

Getting them batting a whole 2 session under lights tonight has got to be worth 80-100 runs vs. waiting until very late tonight, meaning most of their batsmen can bat in the daylight tomorrow. If nothing else why allow their batters to get any confidence, if you can avoid it? Make it as hard as possible.
