I've had enough, Virat Kohli.......

Congrats Jono, you are a true champion. I'll make sure to keep my CW posting to ****** in jokes that ruin threads and only popping in when Williamson scores some runs.
Would represent a massive improvement if you kept to your word.

Keep up the good fight champ.
The fight's over. The big 4 exist. Everyone knows it but you. Check out who the top 4 ranked players are. Check the batting records.

You're the one that's "had enough" so sounds like you're the one fighting. Why can't you just be happy we have 4 awesome batsmen. It's a great thing for cricket.

.... is a good player, great when it comes to the limited overs stuff. But if he isn't the most overrated player going around at the moment then I don't know who is.

Sky Sports named their present World XI and this cat not only made the team, he was named as the captain. I mean come on. The so called big four in world cricket Kohli is easily a level below the other three when it comes to test cricket. His career average of 46 should put him somewhere in that second tier of test batsman, and yet, it doesn't. He's consistently rated right up there as a test batsman.

Please, somebody explain. How has this happened. How has a guy with a good but not great (and not even close) test career to date managed this.
Mate, you deserve to taste and taste hard. Cop it sweet son.

The big 4 was always about the next decade in test cricket though right and the best young bats? Like Amla, Cook, AB etc didn't disappear.

Having said that, the top 4 ranked test bats being the big 4 is delightful.

Ages:

Kane - 26
Kohli - 28
Root - 25
Smith - 27

So if we're looking at batsmen in the age bracket of 25-28, the closest competition to the big 4 are Rahane, Pujara, Bairstow, Tamim, Mominul Haque, Umar Akmal, Barath, Darren Bravo and Chandimal. And maybe Maxwell if you think he could still have a big Test career.

You could make an argument for the two other Indians to join the convo, making it a Super Six instead of a Fab Four. I'd actually like to include Pujara tbh; Rahane still has quite a bit to prove after a bright start.

Pujara has a quite a bit to prove too if he is going to get into that club.
Does he? Keeping it at Tests only, he has 3193 runs in 70 innings @ 49.89, 10 tons 11 fifties and a good record in all countries - worst average is 39.46 in SA.

He only has 800 runs less than Kohli in 18 less innings, and 4 fewer tons (not including today's innings tho)

Oh I meant more in the sense of playing on pitches with bounce and where people try to bounce him.. Curious to see how he deals with that.

Struggled in England and Australia, and didn't do much in New Zealand either.

But he's awesome in Asia. Would really like to see him play Herath or Shah over a long series in spin friendly conditions.

I think you may be looking at strike rates instead of averages, or averages vs countries rather than averages in countries, or something like that, because there are a bunch of countries in which he has pretty terrible records. He's only done well away in Sri Lanka (literally one match) and South Africa (where he played one really awesome innings and not a lot else).

I hate 'analysis by checklist' but he's played a disproportionate amount of his matches at home due to being dropped away a couple of times, and his away record is much worse than his home record. If he had a split closer to 50/50 like most players his average would be a fair bit worse at this point, IMO.
